  1. seriously! doesn't it f***in suck! i am so angry. i apologize for the pseudo-swearing. i think it comes down to a lack of understanding of our system vs. theirs... if they don't change it i'm just going to go to a different university. i got an amazing offer from king's college, london of only 3.4 GPA and the people there are super nice.
  2. yo dudes. i got into cambridge and then i received my letter and the academic condition is "Complete your Bachelor's Degree with a CGPA of at least 3.9." Guess what my CGPA is? 3.7. Is there any way to humanly get my GPA to a 3.9 in one semester? NOPE. thanks, cambridge. so now i have to wait for them to reconsider and hopefully change it. it's like "we like you, you're good enough to get in, but we'd like you better if you were ... better." wtf. i almost want to just reject their offer. it's not even an offer. it's like a non-offer. f***!
  3. Has anyone applying to UK schools heard anything yet?
  4. Is that the day we find out about finalist status? gahhhhhh!
  5. Hi! I'm looking into King's, Royal Holloway, Southampton, and Oxford. It's definitely a different system though, and is a bit confusing tbh. Also, just to add one other small thing: I asked the director of undergrad studies in my university's music department (don't want to give anything away, but I'm at one of the top 10 universities in the US according to the US News - flawed - rankings), and he mentioned the important aspects of our applications for grad studies as the following: 1) writing samples 2) recommendation letters ...distantly: 3) grades and GRE
  6. I've got all my grad apps in as well as Fulbright... the wait is terribly stressful! I hate to say it but I've been watching an inordinate amount of King of the Hill to take my mind off of it all!
  7. Just had my interview. It went really well!!
  8. SUPER NERVOUS!! Except: we got an email saying that even if we can't attend the interview because of a conflict with class, it wouldn't count against us... so maybe the interview actually isn't that important. It's only 15-20 minutes after all...
  9. My interview's on Monday!! Anyone have any interview tips for us all?
  10. We do it similarly - We submit our apps online, and then get interviews, and then the apps can be "unsubmitted" if we want to change anything. The way your schools do it seems more reasonable.
  11. Campus deadline is tomorrow! Submitted the thing this afternoon
  12. Good luck all!! Deadline for me is Monday morning at 8:00am CST! WOOT!
  13. I can't, school hasn't started yet...
  14. I am really having heart palpitations over my last reference because she still hasn't submitted her letter and our campus submission deadline is on Monday! There is no leniency in the deadline... and if I'm one reference short, who knows what that will do to my chances? I sent her a reminder on Sunday... no response... I sent another reminder just now... hopefully she'll get it in! I am freaking out a bit, must say.
  15. Just got an email from my campus adviser saying that he has access to my application online and can print it out for review by the campus committee. Cool!
  16. For our campus deadlines, do we need to submit all our documents to our campus advisers, or do they just have access to our applications on the Fulbright website? I figure they just go on the Fulbright website and have access (there is that section where we have to enter our adviser's email address) ...
  17. Thanks for the advice! He surfaced today - Big sigh of relief! He's my only referee who hasn't submitted his/her letter yet, but now that I know that he's at least checking his email and has computer access, I'm confident he'll get to it on time. Our campus deadline is Sept 13... It's coming SO SOON! YIKES!!
  18. What should one do if one of their referees goes a bit MIA? One of my referees is usually very quick with email, but I haven't heard back from him in a month or so regarding reading my thesis for my grad-school applications and writing my letter for Fulbright! Yikes. I hope he's alright, but I'm not sure what to do now in terms of getting my third letter! He did confirm his registration on the Fulbright website a while back.
  19. Musicology! I'm applying to Columbia and Stanford, too...
  20. I'm not sure how important it really is. I'm considering UPenn, and they have the range of GRE scores they accepted for their music PhD program; seems that it isn't all that important: GRE Median - Verbal: 660 GRE Media - Math: 700 GRE Range - Verbal: 550-770 GRE Range - Math: 530-800
  21. How's it going for everyone these days? My app is going well... Just waiting for my reference letters to get submitted. Woohoo, Fulbright!
  22. Hi, Lola! I'm a 4th year undergrad. Applying to the UK for a research grant to study musicology. Good luck with everything!!
  23. Don't worry! It will all work out in the end!! I happen to be applying to a country where people are quick with e-mail, so I'm sure you will hear in due course (well before the deadline and all that) and all will be well!!
  24. I've gotten very lucky in the sense that all the professors I've been in contact with at the schools I'm applying to have been so incredibly nice about writing letters -- I actually am getting five letters of support: I'm applying to three schools, and have a potential adviser at each writing a letter, and the department heads at two of the schools are also writing letters!! Couldn't be happier about this. UK is such a competitive country for Fulbright, I think that the more support I have for my grant application the better!!
