  1. As I try and figure out the Plan B after not getting into UVIC's MSW program for September; I'm wondering if there is a place to look to see the size of the MSW classes for Canadian universities? I realized after the fact, that UVIC's MSW program only takes about 20 students a year and they had over 150 applications.

I'm applying at Laurier right now for the part time MSW program but would love to know how likely it is to be accepted before all of the stress of waiting it out again.

A question to those of you applying to UVic MSW - is working in social policy your primary interest? If not, do you know anyone who has graduated from the UVic MSW recently and has gone on to become a clinical social worker?

I am asking because I too applied to UVic and would love the chance to live in such a beautiful city! However, after looking at the course offerings in the program they look more policy oriented than clinical. I am currently working in a social policy role and am hoping to switch over to working clinically as a social worker. I love the anti-colonial, anti-oppressive bent of the program but I am worried it won’t give me the clinical skills I am looking for.

    Hey there,

I'm already working with Island Health so the MSW will allow me to move up into a clinical role. The anti-colonial, anti-oppressive focus fits completely with where I am at.

The online offering of the program is another selling point for me as I have four kids and uprooting them for my schooling would be quite an undertaking.

    Good luck to you!

I applied to the Foundation 2-year program at UVIC and also anxiously awaiting a decision! Based on the forums from previous years, first week or two of March is when they send out decisions!!

Fingers crossed for both of us! Are you in BC as well? I finished my BSW at UVIC last spring and would love to continue there.
