  1. @slp2023This entire situation is such a bummer. Most of the programs I applied to were upfront about not providing funding outside of a handful of GAships every cycle, so I honestly wasn't anticipating receiving much assistance. It's not surprising that tuition is the same (I'm glad most aren't increasing). I'm not sure if this is an option for you, but I wonder if you can ask about deferring? I've heard of some people deferring for financial reasons and stating that they will be spending the next year saving money and applying for scholarships.
  2. Hello friends, I was wondering if anyone has been/is in the same boat as me and is willing to share their experiences. I applied to graduate programs in Speech-Language Pathology last fall/winter. Shortly after submitting my applications, I got the surprising news that I'm pregnant. My husband and I were (and are) absolutely thrilled! Long story short, he was recently diagnosed with leukemia in 2019 and his doctors were pretty adamant that we would be unlikely to have children for quite a while. We weren't trying to conceive, so baby was a HUGE surprise. Nonetheless, we are grateful and very, very excited (for obvious reasons). Anyways, I received a few acceptances and have been placed on a few waitlists for Fall 2021, all of which begin around late August. Ideally, I would like to defer my start term to next Fall (2022). I'm just in a bit of a pickle since the schools I'm waitlisted at are my top choices. I'll be contacting programs in a few weeks for definitive answers, but still wanted to hear from fellow students. Has anyone, especially those in SLP programs, been granted deferrals for similar reasons? Has anyone (in general) been granted a deferral AFTER being admitted from a waitlist? I'd also love to hear from any mamas out there! Did any of you begin grad school with a newborn? What was/has it been like? There is always the option to matriculate. However, I'm due July 28th. Given that most programs begin very shortly after, I just want to make sure I'm in the best physical and mental state to begin a program. If I have to matriculate, I'd opt for the local university that I got into to avoid moving issues. We do have family here, but all of them work full-time and/or are in school full-time, so I don't expect getting a ton of help during the week with babe (which is when we'd actually need it).
  3. @dkz65 Have you heard from UT Austin yet? I emailed the director, Cyndi Goodson asking for an update on my application. All updates should've went out last week, but I never received one. She forwarded me an update. If you still haven't heard back, I'd reach out!
  4. @jomyers.onlineNo worries! Thanks for the info!
  5. This reddit post actually appears to be discussing ASU (Arizona State). We're waiting to hear back from UT Austin (University of Texas, Austin)
  6. I applied from out of state as well! I agree. I know a few people said they were behind due to the winter storms. It's just strange since the people who posted about getting waitlisted said the email mentioned that they were done reviewing applications.
  7. I'm currently taking one leveling course here. I did a post-bac program, but my program didn't have an aural rehabilitation course, which may graduate schools required. In communications with my professor, she's extremely professional and kind. I was going to apply to their graduate program, but decided not to after being enrolled in this course. I'm sure very course is different, but I haven't had a single live lecture the entire semester. There also isn't any recorded lectures. Every week just includes readings from the textbook and additional online resources, a discussion board, and a quiz. There is little to no interaction with the professor unless you're emailing her directly. I have a pretty solid A in the course and I'm sure plenty of people can be successful in a program like this, but I honestly don't prefer it. There's no interaction with your classmates outside of the discussion boards. It's definitely a "learn it yourself" type of class style, which I didn't want for my graduate experience.
  8. I've seen a number of people on the results page state that they've received waitlist emails (in their junk folder), but I still haven't received any information from them and my MyStatus page still says "In Review."
  9. Thanks for the insight! I know policy differs from program to program. I guess I'm just worried about the programs I'm waitlisted at. If I got off the waitlist, I'd rather attend there than the ones I've been admitted to, but I likely wouldn't even find out until after the 4/15 deadline.
  10. Hello! I've gotten into a couple of programs, but am waitlisted at Portland State and waiting to hear back from UT Austin. I like all of the programs I applied to, but would choose Portland State or UTA over the other two I've been admitted to.
  11. Hello, I was wondering if anyone here has any insight regarding the likelihood of a grad program allowing you to defer your admission for a year. Shortly after submitting my apps this cycle, I got the surprising (but HAPPY!!) news that I am pregnant. I am due at the beginning of Aug and most programs start soon after. I am afraid I will be physically unable to start a grad program by then. I got into a few programs and am waitlisted for a few. Anyway, just wondering if anyone here has deferred, attempted to, or knows anyone who did.
