  1. TakingACarnap, what is your top school? As a fan of Carnap, I simply must know
  2. This has not happened to me and I do not think it is common. It sounds like if this person finds that you really do have similar interests/would be good to work with, that you have a high chance of getting in. The only caveat would be whether or not other faculty getting "their" students is prioritized over this faculty member's "pick" this semester. Good luck & update us on how this pans out!
  3. With a username like that, I'm glad you got into Minnesota! ?congrats
  4. Anyone else get an email from Fordham just saying 'On behalf of the Ph.D. in Philosophy (with prior Master's degree) at Rose Hill program at Fordham University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences (GSAS), thank you for submitting your completed application for 2022 Fall admission. Please save this email for your reference.'? I did not just submit the app--submitted Jan 1 or something--so I thought this was strange. Maybe not tho uwu?
  5. Congrats! No news yet from any of mine (7 ?), but we shall see
  6. I think you should try to transfer if you can. If not, make connections with other departments at your university--a lot of the work in philosophy is being done in lit programs, religious studies, environmental studies..the list goes on. If you are working on a more STEM-related area, even then, other deps can be much friendlier and more willing to help build up your ideas rather than tear them down. Keep plugging along, friend!
  7. I'm applying to PhD programs from a Master's program. I've forgotten how this works. Do I need to send an *official* transcript to every school I'm applying to? And, if so, does it have to be for every institution I have been at, or can I just use my MA transcript? Can I attach unofficial transcripts instead of official, and only send official if I'm accepted? Thanks.
  8. So, I'm doing a masters in philosophy right now and it his obviously all been online. This means that when I apply to PhD programs this fall, I will only have "known" the professors I am getting recs from for a couple of months. Of the 3 profs, 1 will not be teaching in fall 2021 and another is moving across the country. I have as good of a zoom rapport with these profs as one can via zoom, but the whole situation is awkward, and I've been told that the department is a bit standoffish in normal times too. How do you think people reviewing grad apps will deal with this kind of situation? Will it look bad/weird? (I'll have my MA in May 2022, which is why I will be applying in the fall)
