Both in my personal experience and talking to some faculty members, age is really not an issue. If anything, having life experience and the maturity it brings is a plus, even if a small one. Best of luck! PS: is the Arizona program still funded?

The fact that they marked the application as complete in order to review it suggests to me that missing one LoR would not be a huge issue. Otherwise they would be wasting their own time to review the app. Of course, having another good LoR is always a plus. It wouldn't hurt to reach out to the Department to see if you can still submit it somehow. Best of luck!

I applied three times and one of the recommenders was the same all three times: all rejections the first round, a funded MA offer the second round, and a couple PhD offers the third round. So i really don't think that would be a factor in the decision process. Best of luck!

I didn't have any publications or conference presentations. Those might be more important for STEM fields, but much less so for Classics. I'm not in archaeology or material culture, so not sure about fieldwork.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. They shouldn't have raised your hope like that. For what it's worth, it took me three rounds of applications before getting any acceptances from PhD programs. I wish I had better suggestions for you, but I really hope everything works out for you at the end. If you want to chat or just a place to vent, my DM is open!
