  1. Kansas, Michigan State, and Indiana are all really good suggestions. At MSU they are just starting to build a section of the geography department focusing on this area, but there are at least 2 grad students and a professorworking on it.
  2. I am also going to MSU, I have a flas and will be getting my MS in geography.
  3. The professor who helped me with mine said to make sure you play up that you intend to study the language for longer than your fellowship year, and will actually use it in the future!
  4. Hmm, I received my admission awhile back. Do you think funding went to all of the PhDs before they gave those of us who applied for a masters a shot? Do you already have a masters?
  5. MSU=Michigan State? I'm finishing my undergrad here right now in the geography department. If you have any questions or anything about faculty/East Lansing/the dpeartment in general, you can private message me! Obviously, I can't give you a grad student's view, but I do work closely with one of our faculty, and I know quite a few grad students/the grad advisor/the grad secretary.
  6. Who got funded at Indiana??! I need details!
  7. It is probably good news that you haven't heard from UW yet, because I got my rejection yesterday, and it seems like a lot of people did!!! Also, there deadline was Dec 15, whereas Oregon's was Feb 1st. I'm starting to lean towards no method to the madness, though. I just want it to be over!
  8. I'm starting to feel like I MUST be waitlisted at UIUC or something, because of that post a while back. Also, it sounded like that person was getting a prestigious fellowship of some kind, so they may have been a top recruit, or something? I don't really know, I just really want to know where I'm going to be so I can mentally prepare myself for the move!!! Oregon is on the quarter system, which I think is why they haven't met yet...their website says April 1st, which is killing me.
  9. My rejection to the University of Washington was emailed to me about half an hour ago. It sucks, but I expected it and Seattle is expensive. At least it broke up the monotony of getting no notifications for the last few weeks. Moving on!
  10. Two students from my department and I have all applied, and none of us have heard anything yet! And he said they were meeting later this year, for some reason or another.
  11. Kansas and Oregon, I was told for sure hadn't met yet. I'm not sure about Washington or UIUC, though.
  12. I know! Weekends are the worst! I'm starting to get so antsy! I spoke with one of my professors, and two of my programs' ad coms haven't even met yet. This waiting is SO hard.
  13. I'm still waiting on Washington, too. I had a few acceptances all come at once, and now I've been waiting for weeks again.
  14. Congrats!! I got into Michigan State today! The decisions keep on rolling in, but no one is meeting for funding! I'm getting so anxious to figure out where I will be next year.
  15. I got news yesterday that I was in at Miami University-Ohio. There is a professor there who I'd LOVE to work with, so this is great news!
  16. My rejection from Wisconsin came today. I kind of knew it would be a no go.

    Flint, MI

Hey, I grew up in the Flint area. There really isn't anything there, I wouldn't recommend going there. :-\ They are trying to bring the city back...but...yeah. Do you have any specific questions?
  18. I'm an Undegrad at Michigan State and I'm not in anthropology, so I don't know much about the grad program, but I have taken a few undergrad classes. As far as I know, we have a pretty strong physical anthropology program. What I do know is that our social science programs in general are very good!
  19. I got accepted to Indiana-Bloomington yesterday! I'm still waiting to hear back from 7 other schools, and no word on money yet.
  20. What I mean by published is I guess submitted, but I've already been accepted to give the presentation on it, if that makes any sense. Should I retake it? I'm afraid of scoring lower on the quant, and I really don't think I can raise my verbal in the short amount of time I have until I'd have to retake it to get the scores in on time. Not to mention the $140.
  21. I'm a senior, applying to Geography Masters programs. I just took the GRE today, and am a little concerned about my graduate school opportunities. Here is what my stats are: GPA: 3.6 overall (same in Geography) GRE: 460 V (ouch), 620 Q, 4.5 AW Research Experience: I'm currently working on a paper with a prof, and I'm doing a presentation on it in the spring. I am completing 3 majors (Geography, a foreign language, and Interdisciplinary studies in the social sciences.) I have 2 really strong letters of rec, and one good, but not as strong letter. What I'm most concerned about is my GRE Verbal, is that going to kill me? Thanks for any advice!
