well i just got an email from Margo Margolis @ Tyler: I am pleased to inform you that you have made the first round in the admission process for the MFA program in painting. We will make final decisions in late March. so...maybe there isn't an interview regardless....I'm fucking pumped....I still have a chance at my top 4 choices!!

@ms_brooke: by positive notifications, I meant notification on interviews, acceptance, etc.....The woman I talked to didn't mention interviews, but I'm pretty sure they do them. I assume that the majority of cuts have been made, and they are probably deliberating over whom will get an interview out of a significantly smaller group. However, I have no factual evidence to support this.

correction on Tyler for painting.... I had to call again and straighten more stuff out, and I had a chance to ask a couple questions. The first round of rejection letters should be arriving soon through snail mail.....however positive notifications aren't going out for at least a couple weeks.

Just passing along some information for those that applied to MICA.....Mt Royal only interviews about 20 people for the 12 spots in their program. Which is surprising...I thought most schools only accept about 30% of their interviewees, but that puts Mt Royal at 60%.

Just heard back (02.11.11) from MICA via email....got an interview for Mt Royal!

that's a pretty amazing question....it actually makes me excited to know it's not the run of the mill questions. of course that means there are ample more opportunities for me to trip up in the interview. thanks for the heads up. James

I never asked. My work is leagues better in person. I'll just be dropping the coin to get it there and cross my fingers that I'll still have enough money to buy food.

Not yet. I'm still trying to figure out what to do about this large painting. I'm heading to UPS to discuss over-sized shipping on Monday. Do you know if Tyler conducts interviews? I assumed they did, but I'm not sure I physically read it anywhere or not.

I called them because I was apparently missing 2 of my 3 letters of recommendation. Fortunately she said it wouldn't affect decisions. I wish they would go ahead and let everyone know NOW. Quit beating around the bush, guys.

called Tyler. no sweat about the missing letters...they said my referrers can email their letters directly to her. WHEW. I was about to flip my wig. BTW apparently the Painting Department first cuts have been made, and notifications should go next week!

Talk to Melissa Morgan at Tyler this morning...among other things she said that the first round of the Painting department had been selected, and notifications should go next week!

I've already sent them an email, and I plan to call them first thing in the morning. I can only hope that I'm not disqualified for something that is out of my control. I checked in with them regularly on the letters. Tyler is my 2nd choice too....that would be epically horrible to be thrown out of consideration.

FUCKING HELL....two of my letters of recommendation never came in at Tyler. WTF Great, more shit to freak out about. Never mind guys that I gave you a fucking spreadsheet with every school and it's requirement for letters of recommendation in OCTOBER. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH! A photographer at MCA, Tommy Kha, got an interview for Yale's Photo Department. I looked at their student diversity, and it seems there is only one student from TN....none from MS, AL, GA, or SC....I think Southerners are a minority for sure, which may or may not work out to our benefit

Hi Erin, Turns out my girlfriend, Whitney Hubbard, was roommates with you at MCA several years ago. I'm about to graduate from the U of Memphis. Small world. I'm sorry to hear you didn't get an interview, I feel that your work is really strong. I looked at your website once I saw you were rejected, and realized just how strong the competition is for those 22 spots...my stomach sunk a little...haha... I wish you the best of luck with your other submissions. James
