  1. Hi everyone! On the gradcafe results page, some ppl list their gre scores. Does anyone know if that score is for the verbal or quant section?.. It just has one score out of 170 listed..
  2. For schools that use apply web, does the decision letter get posted on the apply web website? Also, anyone heard back from Emory?
  3. Thanks @jjiffy and @Theory007 ! Are you guys aware of some departments that interview every applicants that they are strongly considering? (schools where interviews are one of the mandatory admission processes) I'm just concerned.. if I don't receive an interview invitation within 2 weeks.. should start worrying?..
  4. Hi everyone! Curious to know if Poli Sci departments typically send out interviews for PhD admissions? I am applying to 10 schools and none of them seem to have any information on their website regarding interviews (even Wisconsin).. Also, are applicants who are invited for interviews most likely admitted?.. I've heard from a former poli sci PhD applicant that receiving an interview invitation is neither good nor bad, because it means you are not good enough to be admitted right away, but at the same time, you're not as bad to be rejected right away.. but wasn't sure if this is correct... Thanks and have a nice rest of the weekend!
  5. Hey! Thanks so much for your reply! I graduated from a U.S university, so don't have to take the toefl. the percentiles were 160V (86%) 166Q (87%) 5.5AWA (98%) and 163V (92%) 168Q (91%) 4.0AWA (54%) I think for the second AWA test, I might have went off topic or something.. because I wrote the exact same amount with the exact same approach.. oh well~ I agree with you that the percentile is more important than the actual numbers. Both VQ improved, but because off the big drop in AWA, if I had to choose only ONE, than I think the first test score will be better. I just wasn't sure how important AWA is.. a lot of intl students actually get around 4.0, so while the second score makes me stand up for the VQ score (especially quant) the AWA is just average.. but for the first one, I really stand up for the AWA score, while the others not so really.. But only one school said they will look at only one test score, and all other schools said that they will either super score, or consider both.. so I guess if multiple attempts doesn't look bad, maybe sending in both will be better.
  6. Hello! I'm an international student applying to Ph.D programs in Political Science this year. I have taken the GRE twice. 1st attempt: 160V 166Q 5.5AWA and 2nd attempt: 163V 168Q 4.0AWA most schools told me that they will either super score or consider both scores for the application process. Still do anyone think I should probably just send one? as it might look bad to have multiple attempts?.. or think sending in both is better? If I had to choose one.. I thought the first one is better, ONLY because I am international. I noticed that most intl students struggle with the AWA more and it's rare to get above a 5. But Im not sure if I should simply just weigh in more for the VQ sections...? Thanks!
  7. Hello! I am an international student applying to Ph.D programs this fall. I have taken the GRE twice and received a somewhat mixed result. First attempt: V160 Q166 AWA5.5 Second attempt: V163 Q168 AWA4.0 I thought about retaking it.. but not sure if I can pay for another test.. so for now I will need to choose between the two.. I am gear towards submitting the first one. The only reason is because even though I am not sure how much AWA scores are important, I noticed that a 5.5 score for an international student is extremely rare and will make my application unique. However, while the quant score of 166 is above average, I am concerned with the 160 verbal.. is that too low for top tiered programs?.. Other parts of my application is strong, with high GPA, went to a top 20 college in the US and some published works. GRE, from what I've heard, is being weighted less.. however, according to some people, it is still used as an indicator to screen applications? (Not sure if this is true). So I'm a little concern if the 160 will not be enough to pass the screening.. even though the other two sections are above average. Can anyone give me some advice please? Some schools allow to send both scores so will do that. But others only allow one.. Thank you so much. (My top choice is MIT or Princeton. It used to be Stanford until I saw on their website that "most admitted students have verbal 166+")
