Breaking: Sources say programs scaling down this year
jackassjim replied to AllFiredUp's topic in Political Science Forum
Yeah, I too had heard that D. Acemoglu had decided to retrain as an anthropologist. That would explain the "us"... -
Dirty Harry, or Casino-style?

I hope you did not take my comment to imply any kind of assessment of your chances of admission. I have not read the posts your refer to for your stats, but your confident tone alone suffices to convince me that you'll do more than well in this cycle. I wish you the best of luck, as I hope that a big chunk of my future cohort will have work experience. It just adds so much to the seminar experience...

I do not believe that this is accurate. A great number of my professors, at least, have had considerable experience in the "real world". Often at rather high levels. Maybe they have not practiced in a "very sophisticated area of law", but I'm pretty sure that acting as a policy slave for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, or serving on a World Trade Organization arbitration panel counts as "real world experience". Adcomms understand the value of experience, as long as it is relevant to what you want to study, and that your other credentials are good.

Probably not a surprise to most of you, but I have it from good authority that UCLA will be sending out acceptances during the coming week.
-
You know it's midnight, right?
-
I'm sorry to say, but my bet is you won't get in at any of them
-
And people actually go there? I mean, it's not like they can expect huge salaries at upon graduation...

You should perhaps read this thread: http://www.poliscijobrumors.com/topic.php?id=1356

Well done my friend, Well done! I literally laughed out loud. Especially because of the "Danger Zone". It had a real "top gun"-quality to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPYF2p-cGx8 For those who don't have R installed, here's a jpg of convex' masterpiece:

I don't think so, given that the train tracks got there last month...

Wow, I don't know what kind of stories you're hearing, but your anecdote really only sounds like how a normal human being would act in a modern civilized society. Nothing to write home about... -
'Great job on the applications there mate! It must feel good (it did for me) to know that there are no obvious red flags in your application. Now on to the bigger names. I wish you the best for the rest!
-
Man! Thanks for that!
-
A breakdown, maybe, but the poster still took time to change the font size to make it gradually bigger and bolder. I wonder what that says about the persons who populate our community. You know, even in times of crisis, we waste time on (useless?) details.
-
That's really strange. Couldn't just give a phone call, or at least a telegram. Doesn't seem like much work given the small cohort of admitted students...
-
I got a phone call from them before noon and i'm an international student.
-
Yes we do.
-
Great! you've done your homework
-
You have great stats and great chances I think (if the rest of your application is as strong). One thing though that I read from something that was posted earlier, coming from a poli sci prof from Northwestern: Source: http://roberts.polisci.googlepages.com/ ... dvice2.doc Of course, I can't vouch for this as I don't know how old or accurate that is.
-
Probably a reply to the "who am I leaving out?" question
-
The spread might be explained by students declining offers, and departments extending new invitations.
-
Thanks Pete. All the good vibes I can go to you guys. Although this is not so marvelous for me right now, as I'm not sure I will be able to even accept the invite... Anyway, this is for another thread (the one I started in the Applications section). Good luck to you all (I'm also still waiting on 9 schools). Judging from what I've read here, we have a strong group of candidates. I'm sure all will be well.

Sent you a PM

Don't know why I didn't do it right away. In any case, it's done.
