Hello Tinampp! I am exactly in the same situation. I sent you a message - maybe we can share the 'stress' of waiting while we're at it.

Also, again, congratulations to everyone who got in! I'd just like to ask if there is a specific date referred to in your letter about confirming your spot? Thank you so much! :)

Do you think this means for the International Fellows Program, too? I got aid in my decision letter, but nothing about IFP

It said I was awarded a two-year fellowship package but did not specify the IFP so I assumed I did not get in to that.

edit* i thought original post was replying to me but apparently not—i am misreadingstuff from all the enthusiasm

  3. Program Applied To (MPA, MPP, IR, etc.): MPA
Schools Applied To:  Columbia SIPA(MPA-DP & MPA), NYU Wagner (MPA-PNP)
Schools Admitted To: Columbia (still waiting for funding info), NYU ($)
    Schools Rejected From:  N/A
    Still Waiting: N/A
Undergraduate Institution: Private Research University in New York City
    Undergraduate GPA: 3.85/4
    Undergraduate Major: Philosophy and Literature
    GRE Quantitative/Verbal/AW Scores: 163 V, 150 Q, 4.0 AW
Years Out of Undergrad (if applicable): 3 during application period, 4 by May
    Years of Work Experience: 3
Describe Relevant Work Experience: 6 months nonprofit work, 2 years in government (1 in small agency; 1 in presidential communications), recently in private sector in a high position
Strength of SOP (be honest, describe the process, etc): Don't know how to judge this, but I did my best and I believe I did a good job in explaining my background and objectives, filling in certain gaps for my application and explaining why I chose the specific programs. I spent two to three months preparing my statements and applications for both and submitted early.
Strength of LOR's (be honest, describe the process, etc): I submitted three for SIPA and two to NYU (due to a late submission from my other recommender). I believe they are solid at the very least, but I didn't read them. My thesis advisor and direct division chief in the presidential comms office submitted letters for both, and my lead in the smaller govt. agency submitted the additional one for SIPA.

Was the MPA-DP offer also conditional on completion of quant courses? Could you tell how many quant courses you completed? I have taken classes in statistics, econ but not calculus

The MPA-DP was not a conditional admission which was great. I was a humanities major and took zero quant courses during undergrad. However, I did develop some quantitative experience through my subsequent emplyoment. — (on a side note, during the video essay, I got the question “what class are you most looking forward to taking” and in addition to my specific policy area, I also discussed my excitement for further developing my quantitative experience at sipa, understanding that is a real need and weak point in my application)

  5. Received my decision today for the MPA and got a conditional Admission (with completion of some quant courses).

So I received my MPA-DP decision way early (before christmas) and the MPA decision just now. Well— the MPA-DP was my first choice anyway so :)

    @aspiringmpagrad

Have you heard back from the MPA yet? It seems all the results out so far seem to be MPA-DP. I applied to the MPA-EE and I'm not sure how I will hear back by Jan 1st since they will be off till the Monday. Do you think that means I am waitlisted / rejected or they are just slow in sending those out and wont meet the Jan 1st stated date?

I haven't heard back from the MPA results either

I applied to MIA only, but knowing that someone is stil waiting too is making this whole situation weirder. Maybe they are sending out things slowly? Any chance you got pushed to Round 1 as well?

submitted all my documents for both on time for early action, so either they have not released all decisions for early action, or its dependent on the program; or maybe diff. times for waitlisting/rejection/acceptance etc.?

  8. @housing.edthis news (and reading through that thread) has simultaneously increased my hope and anxiety. Oh well. I guess time for the three month waiting game. I am just happy with this acceptance (it is my first option after all!)

@anxiousafI applied early action to both the MPA-DP and the standard MPA. But I’ve only heard back form the MPA-DP — so maybe it is dependent as well on the program? Which one did you apply to?

  9. The welcome letter says that all scholarships (funding?) will be included in the admissions letter. Was this the case for you guys accepted with funding? (Since my admission letter only stated I will hear about the cost of attendance and other details "in a few weeks" instead of a direct statement concerning funding availability in March).

  10. Hi everyone!

Trying this out and I would greatly appreciate yall’s feedback. I am still looking at possible programs for Fall 2022 but i’ve also got some in mind.

I am currently working in the Presidential Communications Office of the Philippines. I am aiming for an MPA or MPP to further my experience and learning with the objective of building a career in the public/nonprofit sector and particularly in development and social policy.

Considering applying to: Columbia SIPA (MPA), NYU Wagner (MPA-PNP), HKS (MPP), GWU MPP, Sciences Po

Undergrad Institution: The New School (Liberal Arts University in New York)

Undergrad Major: Philosophy and Literary Studies (With Departmental Honors, WIth Honors, Deans Lister in every semester; Provost’s list during semester abroad in Paris)

For my current job, I have also taken certifications and seminars (within and external to my organization) concerning quality management, performance management, risk management, learning and development and so on.

    Years out of undergrad: 3

    GPA: 3.85 / 4.0

GRE: 163 V // 150 Q (took the GRE a few days ago and still waiting on official results including my writing)

Quant Background: None. My college did not require any quant classes. I am more than willing to take quant classes, of course, to address this lack.

Relevant Work Experience:  1 year in Presidential Communications Office of the Philippines in the Planning and Research division. I am currently employed here with primary responsibilities concerning project and program management and an array of administrative tasks. I held the main responsibilities for organizing projects (activities) concerning performance management and assisted in other division programs/projects.

1 year in Philippine National Film Development Agency (under office of the president) as a writer in the External Communications Division. I primarily wrote press releases and feature articles. I also handled the various agency social media pages.

6 Months in a Brooklyn Non-Profit and community/human rights organization for low-income youth working as a tutor and mentor. I loved this job.

Languages: English and Tagalog (Native proficiency in both), French (elementary -- took basic french classes in undergrad)

Statement of Purpose: I am aiming for an MPA or MPP to further my experience and learning with the objective of building a career in the public/nonprofit sector and particularly in development and social policy. My undergrad experience in Philosophy and Literature were deliberately not career oriented. For me, these degrees developed my critical thought and world-view at a crucial time in my life. I really loved undergrad. It showed me the possibilities of education and opened up my world to the possibilities of the human spirit. I come from a rural province in the Philippines and it was truly a unique privilege to discover the world of higher education and academia.

For my MPA, I would like to move from the theoretical to the practical. To develop my skills concerning (policy) analysis, management, and real-world issues concerning social and economic inequality. I want to do my part in making the world a better place and I feel my skills are best served moving in this direction and in the future working within organizations/institutions addressing these inequalities. At bottom, I realize how lucky I have been in life and firmly believe this should be the norm rather than the exception. Since the pandemic, I have been living again in my  rural hometown and it continuously reminds me of all the things I need to do and the possibilities out there to help my community.

International Experience: Studied in American University of Paris for 1 semester (3.92 gpa); dual citizen (immigrated from Philippines to United States in middle school); work experience in US non-profit (6 months) and Philippine government (2 years at the time of application)

    Strength of LOR:

1 college professor and thesis advisor (department chair), my current division chief (Presidential communications office), and my previous unit head for the Film agency external communications department.
