  1. I was offered an interview with Northwestern's MTS program, but declined since I will be going else where...they had their interview weekend around March 6th I think.
  2. I'm not that optimistic given that I did not receive an interview. When did you have yours? And the way it sounds, it's looking like you have a pretty good chance at getting in. Best of luck!

I would say that Austin is a city that openly welcomes people of all backgrounds and nationalities. I have friends from Mexico, Syria, Costa Rica, Japan, Chile, Equador, etc, etc...and they all loved their time at UT and Austin, and never once complained of discrimination. Congrats on getting accepted. Hope you have a chance to visit.

The intramural field parking lot is a nice spot too, especially since the shuttle takes you directly to the engineering buildings.
  5. I saw that someone recently posted an update on the results board...but nothing regarding admissions. I'm just wondering if there are other people out there on this board that applied to this program. If so, have you heard anything yet?

I agree completely with the poster above. I did my undergrad there, and while I love UT, Austin was not my style. It's a hipster's paradise...and the area around campus I would not consider to be the safest (but not outright dangerous). There is also a pretty annoying bum problem in west campus and the drag. Plus, housing in west campus is becoming more and more expensive with all those new luxury apartments replacing older, more affordable complexes..so if you want to live within walking distance of campus, be prepared to spend a lot more than what you'd expect for Texas....and you do not want to live in graduate housing, it's far away and is total crap. That being said, if you enjoy wild parties and drinking, live music, and very trendy things, Austin is the place to be.
  7. Thanks! I'm still waiting for the last school (it's not in Communication), though I doubt I will get in. I feel really blessed to have been accepted by one of my top choices...and it was the first school I heard back from! That being said, I was denied by what I thought was my safety school :? So it can be difficult to gauge admissions chances, at least in my case. I see that there are a lot of journalism and mass. media people here...any interpersonal communication/social psych people?
  8. Yep, I got the same message. It's too bad, but oh well life goes on. Best of luck in getting into another program!
  9. I do not have a Masters, so I was accepted into the combined program. I basically file my 2nd year project as a Masters degree...so it's just a masters in passing.
  10. Congrats on the acceptances! UPenn, Ohio State, and Wisconsin are really great programs. I found out last week I was admitted to Cornell's PhD program. Really excited about that. And copperboom, I believe Cornell evaluates the PhD apps first, then move to the M.S apps...so, I wouldn't worry if you haven't heard from them yet.
  11. No you're not. I think it's safe to say that nearly everyone is anxious at this point in time. I did however hear some good news from one school...but still have four to go. By the way, for those shooting for the phd, what are your research interests?
  12. I think Cornell sends out interview/admit notifications all the way up to early March... so I wouldn't worry if you have not heard anything yet.
  13. Yea, it's too bad we don't have our own forum. As for my schools, I applied to: Stanford, Cornell, and Northwestern...(and a few interdisciplinary programs). Have you heard from any of your school's yet? I'm assuming I won't hear from mine til late Feb. Good Luck!
  14. Bumping this thread for this year. So, are there any Comm. Studies people out there? I applied to several PhD programs...I`m surely not the only one.
  15. I am! I only applied to one iSchool doc program (Michigan)...the rest are in communication studies. What about yourself?
