Argh the wait for fin aid is so tough :(

it feels like being offered a really delicious slice of cake that you get to stare at and think about every day without knowing if you can actually afford to buy and eat it ??

hopefully decisions will be out soon. Last year, it seemed like fellowship folks found out about 5 days after admissions decisions, and fin aid was about 10 days later.

So hoping we'll have Fin Aid by Mon or Tues and folks with fellowships will know by the end of this week. Wishing you all the best of luck! I'd love for this dream to come true.

This is so accurate. I'm not letting myself get too attached because I'm anticipating getting little to no support.

    Anyone hear about fellowships yet?

Yes! I spoke on the phone with the person who emailed me and it was awesome and so helpful. I actually do think they're sent personally! It's a really nice touch and the offer to speak on the phone is so helpful.

I didn’t, but that sounds like a really nice touch.

I don't think the Scholarship decisions have gone out. Everyone who applies gets an email. At least for US, i'm sure. I got the rejection mail last year. It came 10 days after admissions decision. Hopefully it takes less than 10 days this time around.

Well, at least we’ll get closure!

Is anyone else seeing their application status as "decided" but not actually seeing a decision?

I’m not. Still says submitted for me.

I would think that’s a good sign for you! Less optimistic for me since I don’t see any change. ?

That can vary greatly. McCourt is not a well oiled machine. Schedules readily shift.

I applied by the January 15th priority deadline. Should I assume they have already identified any possible scholarship candidates from both the ED and the Priority waves?

I received my admissions decision for the Higher Education MSED on March 3rd 2021!

Just glanced at the results from last cycle. It seems like Ph.D. decisions were released first and Master's decisions a day or two thereafter. It looks like Ph.D. results were announced today...my hunch is that we should expect to hear something by the end of this week. ?

Same here, and I'm not even the one who applied (my significant other did). I think I care more than she does, haha.

Ha! I remember checking GC obsessively when my spouse was applying to grad programs. The nerves are real!

Hi everyone! I am pretty sure decisions will come out either this or next week based on when I received by decision last year (I was accepted to the Higher Education MSED).

That would be great! When did you receive your decision?

I attended today's Admissions office hours for Ed.M applicants and thought I'd post some of the questions/answers (paraphrased) that I remember:

    1. I can't get in touch with one of my recommenders and they haven't started their recommendation yet. What will happen if it's late?
      1. Should be ok if it's late, but needs to be in ASAP
    2. One of my recommenders can no longer complete a recommendation. Will I be penalized?
      1. Contact the office to see if switching out the recommender is a possibility
    3. I am reapplying this year and have all new recommendations. Will all six recommendations be read or just the new three?
      1. Just the new three
    4. I am reapplying this year, how many new recommendations do I need?
      1. Just one
    5. I started the application but will not submit it this year. Can my recommendations roll over to next year if they've been submitted?
      1. No, you will need new ones
    6. I have a new job but haven't started yet. Can I still put it on my resume?
      1. Yes, just indicate it starts in the future
    7. Can I attach my recent academic publication to my application?
      1. Yes, either with your resume or under the "Additional Information" section, whichever makes the most sense
    8. Do I need to add citations to my SoP if I reference something/someone?
      1. Yes - footnotes, reference section etc. ok. Any citation style (as long as it's consistent) is ok
    9. Can I cite myself?
      1. Yes
    10. How many citations do I need?
      1. Only ones that are necessary. This is not a research paper, it is a statement of purpose and there is no need to refer to research
    11. I am in the process of getting a green card but do not have it yet. Do I need to check that I need Visa sponsorship?
      1. Yes. If the status changes notify the admissions office ASAP
    12. If I submit the application but don't pay by the deadline, will my application still be read?
      1. Contact the admissions office ASAP if you cannot make the payment
    13. I am from a country that is not eligible for fee waivers, and I cannot make the payment
      1. Contact the admissions office ASAP if you cannot make the payment
    14. If I have a new accomplishment after I submit the application and I email the admissions office details, will the new information be included in my application?
      1. Cannot guarantee any information received after the application is submitted will be considered
    15. Can my SoP be longer than 1500 words?
      1. Be as close to 1500 words as possible
    16. Is the deadline in eastern time?
      1. Yes
    17. What is the LDIT capstone?
      1. None of the Ed.M degrees have a capstone/thesis; classes have finals
    18. I ordered official transcripts but they won't arrive on time. Is that ok?
      1. Unofficial transcripts are ok

Hope this is helpful, and good luck!

Thank you for this! Submitted my app early last week and was worried I’d find out I did something wrong. Phew.

In my essay, I'm just going to quickly introduce myself for five seconds then share a quick anecdote and the value that I want to bring to Sanford. I'm using my phone's camera and its just me sitting in my living room. You don't have to make some fancy edited video like some I've seen, just share something that's not in your resume and personal statement. Their biggest suggestion is that you do not act mechanical, and that you don't read off a script. Look at videos examples of past applicants on youtube to see what mistakes you want to avoid. In one example, I can obviously tell one applicant is just trying to read off something.

Imagine yourself trying to squeeze in a script you wrote about your elevator pitch and laundry list of accomplishments in your resume, vs what you would sound like if you were talking to a couple recruiters at some mixer about a neat story. The latter would sound much better. Sound as natural as possible.

Appreciate the response (and good luck with your application!). What you described is exactly what I was thinking about doing. Why would I summarize my SOP or recap my resume when I can humanize the entire package? I think I'm psyching myself out after spending far too long watching others' videos on Youtube.
