  1. That is my approach. But kind of lost hope since the schools I haven't heard from are my top choices (ergo, most competitive).
  2. Btw, does anyone claim the lone UC Irvine admit? That was supposed to by my "safety school," so given the lack of response I think I might as well expect rejections from all the schools I have applied to...
  3. Just out of curiosity, did you receive any updates from UCI?
  4. I think usually Northwestern releases their results in January, but it seems that last year the bulk of them came on the 10th of February. So we might still have a bit of a wait ahead of us.
  5. I am hoping that UC Irvine will release the results soon. Usually they release in January, and afaik their latest release on record was 2 February 2021, so....
  6. Also received a rejection from UW-Madison. First of the season
  7. Thanks for the advice about sharing the results from last semester. We are graded on a curve, so I am quite happy with the results, but the cohort is small so it's not that impressive in terms of top x % in class. I have also submitted my GRE's to MIT and they seem to not be able to see the results. Weird, but I don't want to disturb them given the guidelines they have set.
  8. Good luck, who knows, maybe this cycle will turn out successful! I am not in a position to give advice, after all, I am waiting for results myself. But the way I approached it is to discuss the fit to the program and my aspirations to pursue an academic career in the United States (which is nearly impossible with a non-US Ph.D.). I also tried to emphasize how my current Ph.D. training has strengthened my credentials, and that I am not escaping my current program. I have asked a Professor at my current program to provide me with a letter of reference, to show that I have all the skills necessary to undertake a Ph.D.
  9. Hi everyone, I am in need of advice. I am a first-year Ph.D. student at an international university and I have applied to do my Ph.D. in the United States in Fall 2022. As it is impossible to transfer, I would begin my studies from scratch (if accepted). I have just received the results of my first semester at my Ph.D. program and somehow managed to receive a perfect GPA of 5.0 out of 5.0. Here is my question: Should I contact the universities to which I applied and share the results with them? Would this aid my application or should I simply silently wait for the results? I am worried that sharing the results might annoy the administration, or complicate my enrollment if I am accepted to a program.
  10. Hi everyone! I am curious, did any of you hear any rumours about this years admission season? Last year was a bloodbath, with record number of applications and (simultaneously) many programs either not taking new applicants or reducing their cohorts. I am trying to figure out whether this year we will see a return to the mean or will it also be very competitive due to many applicants who were not successful last year reapplying etc. Of course, I don't think anyone has an answer to those questions, but I am curious what the general mood is in the US academia.
