  1. Oh my bad, I meant to quote @Xaliano. ? But even so, I feel like this is odd that this many rejections are getting sent out when you compare last year's CLS thread here. It looked like most people who posted on it made it as semi-finalists, didn't they?
  2. Do you think it is possible they may have sent out more rejections due to the lockdowns in some countries still? Japan is still closed, so I wonder if they didn't send all of us that applied for the Japan program rejections. I haven't seen anyone post that they've been selected as semi-finalist for it yet.
  3. Good luck! It seems alot of folks here are re-applying after getting rejected the first time, after all. Do people who re-apply get an advantage, by any chance? Are you also using the same essays that you applied with last time, or did you revise/rewrite them?
  4. Just got notification for Japan. Well, I didn't make it seems. Dang, I knew it was a long shot, but I still held out hope. Good luck to all you semi-finalists!
  5. Thank you! Which program are you applying for? I hope you get it as well! I'm thrumming with nervous energy now. ?
  6. Congrats! I still haven't gotten word for Japanese. Does that mean they send out the results at a different time for each program?
  7. Since it seems like only one year has gotten the results later than the 19th, I figured it would be unlikely to get them later than today. Someone on the unofficial CLS Facebook group reported that the results are running late, however. Hopefully they come out sooner! ?
  8. I Same here. I've been checking my e-mail even more so the past week. I'm so nervous! ? (Even though I thought had set myself up to not expect much, the moment I saw the acceptance rate before beginning my application. I guess I can't help it. haha)
  9. Hoping to hear good results for everyone!
  10. Wonderful! I've heard CLS places very strict limits on the amount of English you can speak with your language partner and/or host family. Is that true? If so, that sounds great for rapid language gains. That's so true. Originally, I had alot more I wanted to include in my essays but feel like I had to leave out alot of it due to the word limit (Also, being told many parts didn't adequately answer or were relevant enough to the question, so I rewrote some of them several times. ?) . Well, better to have alot to say than too little though! Of course. I'll report back here when semi-finalist results start coming out. Thank you, hoping good news for all of us as well!
  11. That's amazing. Congrats on your progress! If I could still improve by one or two whole JLPT levels in Japanese, even with the online program, then I would definitely still consider it. Did the online program still give you a "host family"? ? Yes, I submitted it on Saturday! I thought I'd try to get one or two more revisions for my essays in, just in case, but there was no one available from the Writing Center at my school over the weekend and I had already asked alot of different people to check it, including one of them who was a previous recipient from my school. I got alot of great feedback which I've worked really hard to implement, so I figured they should be good to go now. These essays have been some of the most difficult, frustrating things I've written so I can only hope it'll be worth it now. ?
  12. Thanks, best of luck to you as well! Are you planning on still doing the program, if Russian is online? Personally, I don't want to do a "study abroad" without being able to actually go to Japan, which is why I turned down a study abroad program I applied to last year that went all-online with no travel being allowed. However, since CLS is more prestigious, perhaps it will be more worth it even if it is all online.
  13. I'm applying for Japanese as well! This may also be the last year I'm elligble so fingers crossed that it works for us. It seems Japan is now allowing students into the country, so it may be a good sign for travel.
