  1. hey!! happy to help! ik it's a super stressful time for applicants rn. long story short, no, i did not end up going to uwm. i instead let my prof know that i was planning to commit to another program, so i didn't really give the prof enough time to accept or reject me. however, i do remember being fairly confident that i was going to be accepted since it was btw me and one other person who ended up reaching out to me on here and telling me that they were rejected. looking back, i understand that the process was taking awhile at uwm bc they were getting funding opportunities sorted out so the prof's hands were tied but idk ... i didn't like that i had to ask to be connected to other grad students, virtually sit in on a lab meeting, etc. these were all experiences that other programs offered to me, which just made me feel more wanted. if you're going through a similar situation i would maybe ask the prof to be as transparent as possible and just really express your interest in the program (e.g., ask about zooming in for a lab meeting, get one of their grad student's emails to chat with them). good luck!
  2. it was kind of a check in about my interest in the program. my PI at the beginning of the call wouldn’t tell me if i was accepted or rejected. i wanted to be as transparent and honest as possible so i basically expressed that i’m super close to committing to a different program, that UW isn’t my first choice anyways, and i’d like them to not waste their time on me and consider other students. idk they just took super long to get back to me about the admission process and during all that time i was getting familiar with the programs that accepted me and offered me fellowships. after all that my PI at UW kind of switched up on me and tried to convince me to wait a week or two and now they’re trying to get me in contact with some current grad students and give me an opportunity to observe a lab meeting over zoom. they were super vague but they kind of explained that accepting me took awhile bc they were trying to figure out funding opportunities that closely matched my interest… idk about the whole thing now
  3. got a very weird email from my PI at wisconsin madison … they want to chat for a bit but has anyone else heard from their program recently?
  4. sounds like a hard decision to make…does the second program not offer any other opportunities for funding? like are they supportive of students applying for grants? or are the grad students more likely to take up part time jobs? if so, what’s that like?
  5. Northern illinois is going thro their waitlist. i was told was at the top and then when a space was made available i was accepted early last week. i declined tho
  6. congrats! i know getting waitlisted can be disappointing but people turn down offers and free up spots all the time. the program wants to admit you, they just don’t have the room for everyone. i haven’t heard from the program yet, but everyone has until april 15 to accept offers of admission
  7. i’m not sure… i received a similar email last week but it said my admission decision was available on TUportal and that i’d receive additional info in the mail
  8. also, i got accepted into lehigh’s phd program today. it was by phone call so i think advisors are reaching out to applicants on their own time or whenever they’ve personally reached a decision. official letters are being sent after phone calls
  9. i think it’s a bit too late for them to reach out to other applicants about invites. i already RSVP’ed bc i wasn’t sure if i’d get acceptances but I heard back from my top programs last week and today. i think i’ll go still but just be v transparent about my interest in the program — i’m not trying to get accepted
  10. is it fine to decline an interview if you know 100% you wouldn’t go to that program? i recently got offers from my top ones and it feels insincere to go to an interview i have on thursday. i also don’t want to waste the faculty’s time or potentially put an applicant on their waitlist if they offer me a spot
  11. ty! and it didn’t come from the PI so i’m not sure but i only expressed an interest in working with XJ. i got an email from the college of education with a pdf of my admission decision.
  12. got an offer for admission a couple of hours ago!
  13. lol i totally forgot that there were two interview dates. i interviewed on wednesday and i think there were like 15 of us
  14. northern illinois reached out about interviews and they’re happening on feb 3, which is pretty late
  15. just got an interview invite for lehigh and they’re planning to hold virtual interviews on the 24th
  16. it wasn’t a mass email or anything like that so they could still be sending out invites. my PIs are AG and SK but i got the invite email from KE
  17. i’ve only had the preliminary zoom interviews with faculty from UWM so far. i got an invite to go to their official in-person/zoom interview day like an hour ago, so things went well! has anyone else heard from them?
  18. Thank you! Loyola Chicago is interviewing Jan 10 and they want people to RSVP by Jan 3. There wasn’t anything in the email that made it seem like they were 100% finished going through applications, so they could still be inviting applicants to their virtual interview. Best of luck!
  19. Lehigh: PM, BD, RH Syracuse: JF Temple: JB, XJ, LS I wouldn’t worry too much about whether or not you’re a competitive applicant, that’s truly something for the programs to be deciding. I applied straight out of undergrad two years ago with barely any experience and no publications, but I ended up going to two interviews. Sometimes, it really just comes down to luck. Funding was cut for the program I wanted to go to, so I ended up going to a MS for gen psych and I guess here I am. I’d be happy to share the MS program and the lab I’m currently in that’s school psych related if you’re also considering gaining more experience before applying later on if things don’t work out this round. It’s one of the only psych master’s programs that I know of that offers funding, so I’m basically going to school for free.
  20. thanks and i wish the best of luck for you as well! i’m also waiting to hear back from lehigh, syracuse, and northern illinois — i’ll make another post if i hear anything from or about those programs also, i know lehigh is a great program but i’ve heard from a recent grad that their funding can be a bit iffy
  21. sorry that you haven’t heard back from them yet but they’re having interviews on Jan 12 and 13. The 12th is for those who prefer to come in person, the 13th for those who want to interview over zoom
  22. hello guys! haven’t posted anything on here but i thought it would be helpful for some of y’all to know that i received interview invites from temple’s school psych phd program two days ago as well as loyola chicago’s phd program yesterday. not sure if those two programs are still in the progress of sending invites
