  1. @kjbio2022 Thank you for clearing the UCSD info up! I appreciate it. I should've probably googled it, haha. This makes more sense that 6 first-authors required for graduation. Also-- does anyone know anyone/have any strong opinions on UWashington MCB vs. Duke UPGG for genetics + molecular bio programs? Both programs seem to have good faculty in computational genetics, CRISPR, and/or pharmacology, which are my main interests. UWashington seems like it might be a little stronger. My interview dates conflict and I cannot chose any of the rescheduling options due to other conflicts. I'm tempted to choose the UWashington MCB interview and decline the Duke UPGG offer, but does anyone have any insight on either of the programs (or how happy the grad students there usually are, which is what it will eventually come down to)? Please let me know/PM me if so. I'm really not sure which one to choose, but I think I need to do it pretty soon. Thanks so much! - Applied (9): UNC Chapel Hill BBSP, Duke UPGG, UPenn CAMB, Columbia CMBS, Mt. 2. Oh man okay that blows. Thank you so much for the detail and honesty-- I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad experience there as an undergrad. I didn't really look into their TAing prior to applying and 6 first-author papers is way too many. Thanks for your insight. Sucks to hear, but I do appreciate it!
  3. lol could you elaborate on this? UCSD seems cool and I'm interviewing with them in Feb. What didn't you like about it? Genuinely curious-- I don't know anyone who has gone there, so I would love info from someone who went there for undergrad, though I assume it might be slightly different from the grad school. - Applied (9): UNC Chapel Hill BBSP, Duke UPGG, UPenn CAMB, Columbia CMBS, Mt. 4. Hi, no-- the Genetics and Dev track of Columbia's CMBS seems to send invites out more around the Dec 20-30th range. Check your specific track on gradcafe to estimate, not just "Columbia, CMBS". I have been fortunate enough to be successful w/ invites in programs that have released their interview dates so far, so I am hoping to hear from Columbia Genetics next week! :^) Good luck to you and PM me if you have questions! 5. @greymouse yes of course! The PI told me they would send us official interview info in January. I wouldn’t give up hope yet! I got pretty close to the PI during the application process which is probably why she called me.
  6. Turns out CMBS invites are still going out! A friend received one this morning. I applied to the genetics program track and their interviews seem to range from Dec 9 - Dec 30th over the past years
  7. Got a call from Berkeley MCB today (my first choice)!! Yay!! :^) A PI I had emailed/talked to during the application process called then emailed me. Anyone else still (hopefully) waiting on Columbia CMBS?.. lol ? Good luck everyone!
  8. Hi! Introducing myself since I’ve been rotting my brain on this website for the past week. I managed to avoid it during the whole application process but now I cannot get off the forums... lol ? Graduated in 2020 from small well-regarded liberal arts college w/ 3.74, doing immunology/virology and compound discovery research at a university since then. Applying to gene therapy and pharmacology tracks at mostly umbrella programs. BA in biology, 7 publications (2x second-author, 4x middle-author, 1x acknowledged author; of those 7: 3x published in high impact journals; 2x pre-prints, 2x under editorial consideration). 3 recs - my undergrad advisor, my undergrad professor, and my current PI. Definitely did not take the GRE. Quite a bit of research experience during undergrad and post-grad. No conferences or anything like that but I did a lot of presentations on my independent research projects during my undergrad career. I did my undergraduate thesis on gene regulation and found some cool new stuff. I also applied for the NSF GRFP which a lot of apps asked about.. idk how much that helps my app but I did mention it in most of mine! Currently wondering about Columbia CMBS program.. I saw people got interviews today! Congrats! :^) Does anyone know if Columbia sends them all out on one day? Should I assume rejection or maintain hope... it turns out waiting for decisions is far more stressful than the actual application process (at least for me).. Good luck to everyone!!!
