I can't blame them; probably, the applications doubled (or more) since the GRE requirement is now optional.

I guess that's a factor yes. I am a re-applicant and my GRE scores from last year was automatically attached to my application for this year and I had no way of removing it. Unfortunately stuck with some average test scores

Re: strikes at UC affecting offers (someone asked in the thread) - definitely. UC doesn't want to allocate more money to grad students, so they're trying to find ways to cut down the grad student population or try to get around the contract. For example, there's a rumor about UCI Social Sciences (school that oversees Sociology) trying to fuss around with fellowship-type funding because they're under the (mistaken) belief that it's exempted from the union contract (which is funny, because it's not, so you all might just wind up with more fellowship money with UC getting absolutely no financial benefit from it; karma!).

Can't speak for other UCs but I do know that has been affecting admissions here at UCI re: funding offers, how many offers can go out, etc., since the department is trying to figure out how much money they'll get from Social Sciences. In the department's defense, to be clear, they do not control this.

Thanks for the info! I wonder if what you describe affects how offers got sent out, e.g. if they are being slowly released instead of coming out in batches? Obviously UC Berkeley has released results but the results page have only had four or five people reporting, so don't know if it is rejection for me or if they are still in the process.

Same here. My second rejection after UChicago. Neither is a good fit for me so it's kind of expected. I still got 11 programs that have no news at all. Hope we all have some good news in Feb! It's an exceptionally competitve year. It seems that most programs got more applicants and many of them are also accepting fewer students this year.

Not sure how many more rejections I have to endure before getting a real offer. But it's Feb already I am expecting to be overwhelmed by results in the coming days. Best of the wishes to you too!

I don't think they have to send them out this month, unless I missed something on their website that said that? There's definitely no hard cutoffs on when interview requests have to be sent out that I've seen.

Sorry I wasnt being clear. I meant that judging by previous years (which they have of course proved no definitive guideline for this year), no single invites were sent out after Feb, but then yes they don't have to this year... only makes things so much more unbearable

To the post above, I didn't apply to UChicago but I know a few who did and they haven't heard back either. It is strange and nerve-racking but unfortunately, there is nothing you can do but be patient. Good luck!

Thanks for letting me know others haven't heard back either. It makes me feel less anxious. And good luck to you too (if you are also applying this year)!

I'm in the same boat on Chicago. They definitely don't seem to have made any moves yet, including sending out interview requests.

Thanks for letting me know. Though I guess they do have to send out invites before the end of this month which means probably this week. Let's wait and see.

I saw on results updates that UCI sociology are starting to do their interviews and sending out emails. I wonder if all the interview emails are sent today, or would the process extend into a few more days? I am really worried to see them popping up with today's date and I have not really get one in my mailbox.

According to the results page from previous years, interview invites tend to be sent out over a few days, so it takes time. Good luck with getting interview invites!

A lot of programs seem to be working a bit slower than last year already, which is interesting to see.

I'm mostly worried that some departments will be taking smaller cohorts since they're still dealing with the small 2021/Covid cohorts and then (sometimes) large 2022 ones, as well as potential funding concerns with all the talks of a recession looming.

To make cuts to already less than generous admission rates... I don't know what to expect honestly
