I just FEEL like U Chicago is going to send out interview invitations today. I have no basis for this thought. But all of my school results historically come in February, but U Chicago usually does interviews around now and I'm so hungry for some crumb of information.

I'm anxious about U Chicago's interview requests too! It seems they are taking longer this year I don't know if its me being paranoid or what

If you take a look at the results page, you'll realize that sociology programs usually start to communicate in late January. So, I wouldn't be worried until a couple of more weeks.

Thanks for the reassurance. And yes while I do understand that the bulk of decisions are made at least in late Jan, I still couldn't stop being worried. I guess I'm just hopeless lol

Does anyone know if UChicago does interviews? Based on past years' results, it seems there's conflicting information.

Depends on the department, but at least on their social sciences division website they state:

“Only a few programs interview applicants. Those that do will issue invitations via the online application system in January or February. At the time interview invitations are issued, applicants who are not selected to move forward are notified of their decisions. The following programs conduct interviews:  Anthropology (PhD) Comparative Human Development (PhD) Political Economy (PhD) Psychology (PhD) Sociology (PhD)."

Hope this helps, but even for the departments listed above, they don't quite seem to interview all admitted students so I guess we never know

No, it’s not typical. There are a few that do; I believe I’ve seen UVA and Emory, but I know that only from the results section of this website.

Schools like UGA, for example, do an interview weekend, where they invite their shortlist to campus and it’s like a group interview type situation.

In short, plan for results over interviews

    Thanks for the reply!

I do see on Chicago's website that they have interviews too:

Only a few programs interview applicants. Those that do will issue invitations via the online application system in January or February. At the time interview invitations are issued, applicants who are not selected to move forward are notified of their decisions. The following programs conduct interviews:

    • Anthropology (PhD)
    • Comparative Human Development (PhD)
    • Political Economy (PhD)
    • Psychology (PhD)
    • Sociology (PhD)

    So one more for me
