Friday still has several hours left here, but yeah, I was expecting more news today. I haven't lost the faith of hearing something from NYU today, though. Here I am two hours ahead of Eastern time and on other days I have received notifications at the end of the day. (I forgot quoting @scared_phd here)

It seem way too early for Yale, but let's see what happens. And of course, congrats to all those accepted!

I applyied to NYU too and didn´t receive the email

[This will be kind of a long answer based on what I have been told by a professor and a phd student] A couple of months ago I was talking to a former student from my undergrad university. He is currenly a phd student in an European university, and I told him that I was applying to phd programs in the US. He whished me the best of luck in my applications, but also told me that in case my applications were unsuccessful, it may be a good idea to apply to masters programs in Europe with the idea of applying to a phd program later on, probbably in Europe too. Maybe that is not the best idea for everyone, but it may be worth considering. A little bit of context may help: I'm from Latin America and my undergrad institution has one of the top departments of Political Science in Latin America. It offers all three academic degrees in polítical science (although the master's degree is not academically oriented). The thing is that for us (me, the PhD student I was talking to, and anyone who wants to pursue an academic career), the best option is to get a PhD at an European or US University, and that may not be the case for many of you. Of course, there are many other considerations in making that decision. For exmaple, one of the reasons I decided to apply to US institutions was that you don't need a masters degree to apply since you will probably get one as part of the PhD program. Other relevant reason was funding. Many US universities offer you funding along with the admission offer, but that may be more complicated for European universities, as you may need to get a external scolarship for your master's degree and I think merit-based financial aid offered by the university is more limited (I'm not sure if it is the same for european PhD programs, although I think it is). And of course, many of those who live in US may have not considered studying in another continent, since you have many of the best universities of the world in your country. Other thing that may be relevant to consider here is that there are different paths to the same goal. Maybe you don't get offers this cycle, but that does not mean there is something wrong with you. When my undergrad thesis advisor (and recomender) explained to me all the things that committees consider when making a decision, I felt that there is a great degree of arbitrariness. My proferssor himself received no offers when he applied and was waitlisted in two universities--he ended up attending to one of those. He also told me that one of the students that was offered an admision in the first round subsequently dropped out of the program. My professor concluded that it made no difference for his career being waitlisted first and then accepted, in contrast to being directly admitted at the same university of maybe another (although he seems to regret having applied to too few programs). I hope this post helps anyone who is out there with lots of questions on her mind (I'm kind of an overthinker, so I know how it feels)

Northwestern seems to be behind previous cycles, so I expect we will hear from them soon--although they say they don't release all their offers at the same time. Michigan (Ann Arbor) and NYU will probably make offers soon. I'm not sure what to expect from Princeton as there seems to be some fake results posted in the results page for previous cycles. However, I think they may start making offers this or next week. Maybe we will also hear from Colorado Boulder and UC Berkeley within 1 or 2 weeks. So, that's what I expect for next 1 or 2 weeks but I wouldn't rely so much on my predictions hahaha.

Claiming a Brown rejection here. I received an email to check the portal about 1 hour ago. Congrats to all those accepted!
-
The letter says that since UVa is a member of the Council of Graduate Schools, they don't require applicants to accept offers before April 15th. They cite this resolution: https://cgsnet.org/april-15-resolution They also say that the offer may be withdrawn on April 15th.

I received the email at 7:49pm in Chile, which is 5:49pm in Virginia. I don't know how many universities you have applied to, but I hope you get some good news soon!
-
Claiming another University of Virginia acceptance here. Political theory subfield. Congrats to all those accepted and don't lose faith if it wasn't your case!
-
@modesteffect Thanks! I think it is really unusual too--especially because it was posted during a weekend.
-
@modesteffect Umich is Michigan Ann Arbor, right? I don't see it on the results page. Maybe he or she deleted it? About Michigan, where are we supposed to check for the results? On the application portal or on that page called Wolverine access?

There goes another Berkeley admission. They're starting to seem real to me.
-
You're right! I was cheking last cycle's thread and nobody claimed the late-January results. (If anyone wants to check: https://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/126462-2020-2021-application-thread/#comments). One think I still don't get is why most universities don't publish admission offers and rejections at the same time. It seems unnecesary to me.
-
Yeah, I'm expecting next week to be really intense in that sense. I expect Princeton, Virginia, Northwestern and maybe NYU, Brown and others to publish their results next week. Nortwestern's page says that they don't publish all their results on the same day, but they seem to be behind previous cycles.
-
Me too! I also used QS World University Rankings (I heard some criticism about it which I don't remember exactly at this moment), the Shanghai Ranking, and TIMES Higher Education. But again, usnews seems to be the most common.
-
I saw people from CP and IR but I may be missing something. Has anyone seen an update on the Berkeley portal? I see nothing new.

So, what do we think about the UC Berkeley acceptances? The department says that they expect to make decisions around mid-February, no later than March 1, and that they will contact us by email. If we look at the acceptances from 2021, they seem to be fairly spread out in time (starting on January 26 through February 10--the latter applies to rejections too), and in previous years (2019 and 2020) acceptances came around January 26. I'm not sure what to think about this. Besides, they are currenly working remotely, as @ETea24 told us. In any case, I hope any of those claiming admissions can tell us something else, and congrats if you were admitted!

Just checked UT Austin's My Status again and it shows a rejection... It was kind of expected, since I did not receive an acceptance mail earlier today and it was not the greatest fit regarding my interests. (The page says that they will not send an email notifying the rejection.) I'm still waiting for other 12 universities. Congrats to all the accepted!

I have not heard back from Princeton yet. I hope to have news from Princeton this or next week. I see we are both applying to Virginia and Michigan. I believe we should have news from them soon, especially Virginia.
-
@bmo103 thanks! I didn't know about that page
-
Hey @Fredphd2022 what is your classmate's subfiled? If you don't mind telling us, of course. Also, I was expecting Princeton to make offers by the second week of Frebruary. I wasn't considering that they may make offers during this week (1/24)
-
@ShowroomDummy I didn't get an interview, nor heard back from them. I guess we just have to keep waiting.
-
Hi everyone! Has anyone heard back from Northwestern University? They seem to have delivered some results in previous years as early as January 17 (January 19, for the last cycle), but I haven't heard anything from them until now. Of the Universities I'm applying to, Northwestern is the one that delivers their admission offers the earliest (Texas at Austin seems to report results around this day too, but its page says that they expect to make offers around mid-February this cycle.)
