Hey all, long time no post. I honestly was very disheartened after being rejected from UT Austin and SVA back to back (my top two). I needed to take a break from gradcafe and regroup. I come back today with great news! I got into a choice pretty far up my list, the MFA in Children’s Writing and Illustrating at Hollins University!! Still waiting on an answer from Hartford, but everything about Hollins right now seems great.

I'm also having trouble staying focused, haha. And yeah, I'm sure that you having experience before your bfa might bode well. I'm not opposed to taking more time and applying again as I'm still in my early 20s and haven't taken a break from education yet, but we'll see how this goes.

Is anyone else here applying straight out of undergrad? I know that’s kind of a frowned upon thing, but it makes sense for my financial/career plans so thought I’d make the attempt. It’s kind of crazy balancing thesis and grad apps tho, ngl haha. Wondering if anyone’s in the same boat.

Hey, I know I haven't been here for a while like some of you have, but I think it's important to approach things online with a grain of salt, and at the end of the day-- your own research and perception of what you find is what is important. We are all strangers to each other, this is an online forum. Information is vague, weird, honest, fake, whatever. What matters is, we are all here for comfort throughout this really weird process and this insanely crazy time. Let's be kind to each other, and if you feel any sort of hostility, maybe take it off the forum-- I don't mean going into DMs, I mean just taking a breath and taking a break from gradcafe for a sec. It's so easy to be caught up in tedious arguments when you're stressed about something as daunting as applications, tensions can be high. We have a responsibility towards each other, as somewhat of a support group, to keep it friendly at the least. If I'm way off base here, let me know. I hope everyone has a good Thursday!

Yes same!! Checking portals constantly too even though I know I'd probably get an email first. Picking up spam calls just in case it's an admissions office. Going insane here haha.

Ugh, you know when you get an email from a school and you think it’s an interview/decision or something, but it’s just a reminder that your stuff is STILL in review?? I hate it haha.

Hi All! I've been lurking for a bit and thought I'd finally make an account and post! I'm applying for both MFA and MA programs. Sorry that it's not all MFA! I couldn't find a thread specific enough to my situation haha. My goal is to be a Texas arts educator and freelance illustrator simultaneously as I have a passion for both. I'm trying to stay in Texas close to family, which is why my out of state programs are all low residency/online. Here are the programs I'm applying to: University of Texas at Austin- MA in Art Education, Schools Track with Certification University of North Texas- MA in Art Education, Schools Track with Certification University of Houston- MEd in Curriculum and Instruction, Concentration in Arts Education Boston University- MA in Art Education (Online) School of Visual Arts- MFA in Visual Narrative (Low Residency) University of Hartford- MFA in Illustration (Low Residency) Hollins University- MFA in Children's Literature & Children's Illustration (Low Residency) I haven't heard back from any schools yet, but hoping something comes up this week! My top choice is UT Austin but I'd be happy doing any of these programs.
