  1. Don’t assume anything. Get in contact with the current cohort on Instagram at least get a feel for their current work and gauge how your work is in dialogue with theirs. If it is your top choice, email them asking to follow up. Don’t be shy. Tell them they are your top choice, and tell them why. Even if you wrote about it in your essay. You can DM me here and we can exchange IG’s for more dialogue and how they were going to fund me.
  2. Bunny I would say hang tight because I applied to Painting last year, but got contacted by 3d4m. 3d4m are a bit slower and ended up contacting me in April. They had a tragic death in the department, a shift in Chairmanship, and are a little more relaxed time wise in the selection process and think a lot about matching cohorts to each other and to their guest lecturers and artists. You might hear from them later. I had completely given up on UW before hearing back from them. My interview and offer was in mid April.
  3. Hi. I actually got a really fair admission offer but as an international student decided it was risky to go to a school I didn’t visit first. So I visited them in late August and September and the 3d4m Chairman met with me, gave me a tour of the facilities, studios, and UW nature reserve. He also fed me plums from the garden at the 3d4m studios. It was beyond wholesome, welcoming, exactly what I wanted out of a program (He is a kind person though) and it seemed like their program was going to have an interesting few years because of the invited lecturer roster. Also the cohort work seemed really chill. I also met with the students from the painting department who graduate this spring, and they are the best. They invited me to a bonfire before I left. One of them even drove me to the airport the next morning. In the end I decided not to go because I didn’t have enough money saved to live in Seattle, and put my grad studies on hold for now. But I think if I were to go somewhere, UW meets a lot of my needs. I was so touched by how relaxed and welcoming they were. Did you get accepted? Do you have contact with their cohort? You could probably find their instagrams on their grad student pages online.
  4. I think at this point most people have committed to a school and then there’s the waitlist group - I got called in to talk from the waitlist and offered a spot in my top program. The vibes and dynamics are so great, I love the faculty member I spoke with - but I’m being asked to commit to a decision in 24 hours without a formal acceptance letter.. is this commonplace for others in waitlist mode? I don’t feel like it’s exactly fair and it seems like there isn’t even a deferral policy at the school (also a bit odd). I have a lot of commitments that I need to account for as an international student and things that need tying up here, and I’m heavily leaning towards declining the offer in a very long polite but thorough email on how this is not enough time for me and that I will apply again next year. Given this is my first time applying to schools and first time being in a waitlist situation and offered a position - please advise on how to transition gracefully moving forward while maintaining good standing with my school of choice.
  5. Just got informed that I’m on a short waitlist for 3d4m but I had applied to Painting and Drawing. ?? Funny how things work out - I really admire the 3d4m program. Really happy news, has anyone gotten updates and has anyone decided to attend?
  6. Ryan I went there for my undergrad and I did my interview yesterday. I was a painting major that dove right into sculpture and installation for my senior thesis. It was really well received and supported by faculty. The community is very fluid. There was heavy emphasis on this in the interview yesterday as well. I would say take a hard look at the faculty in the MFA program - half of them are super interdisciplinary. If you have any questions about Pratt/Brooklyn feel free to dm me and we can talk about it.
  7. RISD rejections just came out. Link to portal - kind letter. Not bad RISD. Softens the blow.
  8. Did you email UW main grad admissions or the grad program at the school of art? I emailed the program email linked on their website in early February asking about a timeline and they responded in a couple of days.
  9. Congratulations!! I was this ?? close to applying but I need to be close to a coastline. Such an awesome program. ???
  10. KougamiAkane I’m not really sure how schools feel about this - but. I don’t think it can hurt entirely? Might be worth the shot? I don’t know, especially since you emailed them once. I think @Strawberrycat should comment here she’s got a bit of experience applying to schools. I admire your hope and determination, I personally usually decide on worst case scenarios and work with those cards. I hope they get back to you, and I hope they see how much you love their program and give you their time. Crossing my fingers for you. ???
  11. Thank you. Yes, I understand. It’s the same for me too. ?
  12. Please let us know if they respond. I’m sorry you didn’t get invited. It was my top choice too, I applied for painting.
