A PhD is likely better for transitioning to research or academia while a DrPH is designed for public health practitioners that want to pursue leadership positions. That being said, it isn't unheard of to enter some areas of academia (teaching) with a DrPH.

I will be starting my DrPH in Global Health Leadership this fall at Indiana University and would be happy to answer questions about that process if anyone is applying there. I also tanked a DrPH interview at UNC and can tell you what not to do for that, ha ha! Best of luck to everyone this cycle!

This is great perspective, thank you for sharing! I also received my UNC rejection today. It was expected as I know it's a very competitive program and I didn't feel great about my interview. I do feel extremely fortunate to have made it to the semifinalist/interview stage and am counting that as a small win in this journey!

For those waiting on Indiana University DrPH decisions I received an email that they have completed the initial review of applications and will be reaching out to schedule interviews. It sounds like the selection process was very competitive, so I'm thrilled to make it to this point. Fingers crossed for everyone waiting to hear back from this program!

That was me that received the UNC DrPH interview invite. I don't know exactly what their selection/admissions process is, but the email did confirm that decisions will be made early to mid-March. I do know that not everyone invited to interview is accepted. Us DrPH folks are definitely outnumbered by the Epi/PhD crowd and those programs seem to be on earlier decision/acceptance schedules than ours. Don't let that discourage you during the waiting game. Keep your chin and hopes up! ??

For UNC DrPH my invite said that they would interview throughout the month of February with the admissions decisions being made in early to mid-March. When I logged into the portal to schedule, the latest date available was February 25th. Hope that helps!
