  1. They actually talked about this during the tour-- you can't really take classes outside of the MFA program. Well, you can but you have apply to do it and get special permission. And if it isn't directly related to the MFA (ie an art history class) you have to pay separate CUNY class tuition rates to do it.
  2. I would definitely stick with Hunter!! I live in NYC and hunter has a really amazing community of alumni in the city— more so than Parsons!! They are structured pretty differently though with hunter being three years and less credit hours per semester. It has also been described to me by alumni as more of a “independent study” so think on that too!! both are great though so you can’t really choose wrong!
  3. I first reached out to admissions!
  4. It’s totally different department to department! I applied for painting. And I had to email to find out. Last year I heard nothing until March 26th and that’s when they sent acceptances too.
  5. Yes, it is difficult to express how frustrated I am with the entire process. It’s been three years of trying to get grad school to work out and here I am trying to figure out how to beg a dept head to let me in when ultimately he might not even be able to. But I also really appreciate the information as it makes the whole thing less of an ego blow!
  6. That is extremely helpful information. They mentioned a sculpture TA-ship during my interview (I have worked as a shop tech for the past 4 years) and I now understand more why. I do not have any other offers and would take literally anything which I’m tempted to say but also I don’t want to come off as desperate as I actually am.
  7. I’m on the waitlist for Tyler (second year in a row!) and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestion for what I could do? Other than telling the department head that yes I do want to stay on the waitlist and yes I do really want to go there.
  8. Darn. Well this was my third year applying to Tyler and just got my third rejection from Hunter. I’m not totally sure what is going wrong but at this time it feels like I’m not meant to walk this path. Thanks for being here through it all grad cafe! Good luck everyone and congrats to those who got in!
  9. At Tyler? The Admissions dept said that? sorry for the questions— I have a ton of anxiety about it! I was waitlisted last year and heard from the department head at the end of March.
  10. Congratulations! I interviewed in January too for painting and had been hoping the delay in response was so they figured out funding across all programs. Alas. I’ll keep my fingers crossed until I hear from them but my hope is fading!
  11. I applied for painting and I haven’t heard from them since early February! They finished sculpture interviews a week and a half ago so I am hoping to hear any day now! also emailed admissions on Friday and they said I should hear back in “the next week or two”
  12. Anyone else out there still waiting to hear back from Tyler Painting? The wait is really starting to get to me!!
  13. I also haven’t heard. I was going to send admissions a polite email this week asking about it.
  14. I pray to everything that you are right!!
  15. I didn’t hear back until March 15th last year!!! So it might be a while. From what I understand, all departments have to finish interviews then they figure out funding which is why it takes so long!
