Congrats to everyone! Can't believe the mail has come and gone in Scarborough and still nothing. UGH. So frustrating.

Ah, there was actually something wrong with the post in the Scarborough area and the mailman came back to my parents' house to drop the letter off. FINALLY got it!

Received SSHRC-D with 19.8/20 - direct applicant doing a PhD in the UK; first time applying.

Just relieved to not be waiting anymore!

Direct applicant, Canada Post delivered my letter via regular post this morning in Maple, Ontario. 11.7/20, waitlisted! Good luck everyone.

Congrats - that's still a very impressive score! Also, glad to hear the mail is very(!) slowly making its way to the GTA...

  3. Also a direct applicant (doing a PhD in the UK) with a Toronto address - my family informed me that they still haven't received anything. Ugh. I didn't realize Canada Post took SO long to reach Toronto from Ottawa... it's been 3 days already... ?

I would email them just to be sure and explain that you're in the UK and applied directly from outside the country

I think I'll wait for now... let's see...

Direct applicant here! Haven't heard back yet either. You can have SSHRC deliver their mail to your address in England, just email them.

Actually, I want it to be sent to my parents' house in Canada - my mailbox situation here isn't great and things always get sent to other homes. Just was wondering if any news would've come by now since the address is in Canada as opposed to abroad... but if you haven't heard anything either, guess we'll just have to keep waiting!

  5. Any direct applicants hear back? I'm a direct applicant studying in the UK. Any mail that comes should be going to my parents' (my permanent) address in Canada - still haven't received anything.

  6. Yes, I figured if people were actually starting in January 2015 I had definitely been rejected, given that it is already November 29. I researched a little and apparently we will NOT get any regret letter/email if we are not selected. My guess is that when successful candidates accept the offer and actually sign their contracts, then the status of the application will change from "in process"  to "unsuccessful".  Just to be clear, I haven't heard back and my app status says in process.

Not to be pessimistic but I believe if I haven't been contacted by now and the actual start date is in January, this means I'm out. Look at the selection process chart: http://www.unicef.org/about/employ/index_74421.html

    All those stages...

Thanks for your response! Hmmm... I agree with what you're saying, especially considering NETI suggests the start date is January. I actually did some random online searching (and not to sound super creepy!) - I looked up some of the LinkedIn profiles of current/former NETI participants, and a lot of their "start dates" for the NETI program in their respective countries seems to be around March/April, so perhaps the recruitment process is much longer than we expect it to be?

That said, it could really mean anything - that successful applicants have already been shortlisted by now, and because the selection process is SO lengthy, by the time they get through them all, participants start by March (assuming a Nov-Mar timeline).

    Sigh.

  7. The chances are probably not so good considering there is already a waitlist after the first round. Wouldn't hurt to apply though and take your chances - if you have a competitive application they might move you up the waitlist!

Thanks for letting me know, Skip. I think I'm just going to go for it and take a chance. Just spoke to one of my mentors, and he thinks I have a great shot even though it's a bit late in the game. Doesn't hurt to try!

  8. Anybody know what the probability is of getting accepted to NPSIA at Carleton if I were to apply now - during the second round offers? The website states the deadline is August 31, and consideration is subject to available space (after the first round). I emailed the school, but if anyone has a general sense of whether or not it's worth a shot to apply within the next two weeks, do let me know. Thanks!

  9. Rejected. But at least they really took time to think about it ? Haha. I am right out of undergrad so I got the :

Each year, the Committee recommends that a small number of candidates in your position consider reapplying. There is no guarantee of future admission, due to the competitive nature of the admission process, but the Committee believes you will be a stronger candidate after gaining additional professional experience.

    Good luck everyone!

Rejected. Same reason - encouraged to reapply as straight out of undergrad. Sigh... :(

Good luck to all those who are waiting!

  10. Everyone who is still waiting for a response, would you mind posting the date and time that you submitted your application? Maybe this is "rolling" in the sense that there is some correlation between when we submitted and when we will hear back from them. You can check the exact time on applyyourself, clicking on "Application for Admissions" then checking the box on the right hand side. Mine was 1/5/2012 9:43:00 PM EST

My Submitted Date: 1/5/2012 8:22:00 PM EST

  11. I wish I could agree with you IRToni, but trust me, my application will NEVER get funding. I had horrible grades, but good work experience, so it stands to reason that there would be a bit of controversy about my application. I'm afraid they're probably still just deliberating over those who they're on the fence about.

I'm in the exact same position, hudwa.

I'm trying to be optimistic and get through this weekend with the "Good things come to those who wait" philosophy...

  12. The Admissions Blog was updated yesterday:

    When will I know?

    March 1st, 2012 by gh2122

As of this morning… 39% of the applications submitted have been reviewed by the Admissions Committee.

Admission decisions for our 2-year full time MIA and MPA programs will begin to roll out on March 14th.
