To me it comes down to cost and lifestyle. Where can I do better work? Even weighing out the connections NYC provides, for my personal health reasons living in the bay area will give me the ability to take care of myself that living in NYC wouldn't (factoring in commutes, winters, etc). Columbia is so prestigious, in the global center of journalism, and the alumni network could be invaluable: if you can afford it an are willing to live in NYC, Columbia could be the right choice.

I'm glad you got admitted! I can imagine how stressful the extra wait was. Did anyone hear anything about funding in their email?

In my voicemail, it said "within a week." I wouldn't be surprised if it was tomorrow or Monday. No updates to the portal yet. I'm so sorry to hear that they're still leaving some people in the dark, thats really frustrating and not ok

You should go with Columbia at this point. I'm in the same boat. Berkeley has also diluted their applicant pool with the extended deadline. No hard feelings to the later applicants but it's definitely not great news for earlier applicants both in terms of scholarship and admission chances but also in terms of quality of application-- we had much less time & experience with the application process. If they were going to extend the deadline, that should have been communicated from the start, not after they looked at the first applicants Don't risk your scholarship applications! This whole mess has been hugely unprofessional on Berkeley's part
