Haven't heard either and neither has my friend who's in my class. The waiting is so frustrating! I emailed them on Wednesday but have had no response and the Thanksgiving weekend started yesterday so I guess there won't be anything from them till next Monday at the earliest . Well at least we're all in the same boat here so the chances that we're all rejected are lower?
-
Oh yay! I hope they let people know either way-accept or reject. Thursday and Friday are holidays for them so I'm guessing this week means Wednesday? Anyway fingers crossed and good luck!
-
Woah that was really quick! Now don't know what to make of the silence from them. I contacted them the week after the international deadline and they said they were still reviewing. Someone else contacted them last week and got the same reply and the OP had the same response so dunno...aah the joys of waiting it out! Ps:- I sent my Pre-app in August I think-the day it came online
-
There's a topic in the Life Sciences forum about this. There are about three of us none of whom have heard back. I don't think the AdComm has finished reviewing the pre-apps so I don't think there's any need to panic at this point.
-
I actually quite like the concept of a pre-app coz it would be nice to know if I'm not competitive enough to apply so I can go away and fix that before spending so much money. What I do disagree with is that they only started reviewing after the deadline (5th Nov) when the application deadline is 5th Dec and are taking so long so when and if they do approve the pre-app we have so little time to fill in the application and send it off. Then there is all the supplemental stuff and of course recommendations on such short notice when they know too well what academics like themselves are like with deadlines!
-
I'm hoping they get in touch next week. We should take it in turns to email them to find out what's going on! Plan to email mid- next week to add some information to my pre-app if they haven't made a decision by then and will probably ask again
-
Thanks for sharing guys. Could you please post when you do hear back-the wait is driving me nuts and it would be nice to know!

The way I've done mine is to have education first, then research experience/internships and under each one of those to have a very short general list of techniques, then volunteering activities/hobbies. Hope that helps!

I'm not in your field but this is what I would do: I think AdComms are looking to see how you think about things that you read in your field so I would use the 'microscope' approach and talk about a couple of things in detail with your comments on what the author concluded or any theories or ideas he/she proposed, any ideas you had after reading the piece of literature. About reading a lot before grad school to hit the ground running, from talking to people in grad school (not necessarily in the US) you're gonna have to spend some time when you start on your thesis project, reading around the project-what is called a literature review. I don't think AdComms are looking for people who do that before grad school-some people who get in don't even have very specific interests and I think they would be a bit skeptical if you claimed to have read so much.
-
Well they said they would start reviewing them after the deadline so I'm not sure whether to send them and email maybe sometime next week and ask if they've made any decisions. I too sent mine in ages ago-probably one of the first ones in

Hello, So UCSD required international students to send in a pre-app form and the deadline was 5th November. Anyone heard back yet?
-
Hello, So I've already sent off my applications but would love to know what you guys think. I am an international student studying in the UK: BSc (Hons) Biochemistry 2:1 by British standards (roughly 3.5 on the GPA scale but I haven't converted my mark on my appplications) Year in industry: GlaxoSmithKline doing research very relevant to the subfield of Immunology I would like to specialise in Final year project: again very relevant to the subfield of Immunology 1 review article joint with my supervisor at GSK in a low profile journal Two very strong LORs from people at GSK based on my research potential and their first hand experience of it. These people are very well known in the field and subfield and have collaborators at some of the schools I'm applying to or have done a post-doc there. One more general LOR from my academic advisor who holds a PhD but in a different field of Biology. GRE scores: 640Q, 590V, 4.0AW Fit: all the schools I've applied to have at least 3 people working on the subfield with very similar research interests to mine. Schools: Harvard UPenn UCSF Yale Rockefeller MIT Erm that's all I can think of to say...would love to know what people think. Thanks! Ps: please don't be shy to be brutally honest with me-I see so many views of this thread but no replies

Emailing a school to check if they've received transcripts

haha thanks. I don't mind telling them where else I've applied if they ask but not unsolicited. -

Thanks for that. Yes they did mention not to ring either but I could do that if I wanted to. Do you just give the uni your GRE account username and password to let them into your account to see scores? But then wouldn't they also see where else you've sent your scores? I guess I could send the transcript again by FedEx or something if they haven't received it but would love for them to receive everything before the deadline. The deadline is December 8th by the way. -
Hello, So I really want to email one of my schools to check if they've received my official transcript and GRE score report but they've specifcally asked that applicants NOT email to check the status of their documents. Should I email them anyway? I'm an international student so transcripts may get lost in the mail and I've already had one school that's not received a GRE score report and so I've had to get ETS to resend it.

I'm applying to the States with a British degree and I really don't think the British system is at all compatible with the American GPA system. Most universties (all but one of my 6) will not ask you to convert and I wouldn't advise trying to do it either using the WES or any other system because you'd just be doing yourself a disservice.
-
I can read your SOP if you'd like?
-
I took the GRE general on the 16th of July and some of my schools have STILL not received the scores (or have just not updated my applications to reflect that they've received them)!
-
If you're talking about Cambridge in the UK then I highly doubt they will even consider you're GRE scores because the UK has a very different system which the GRE is not compatible with. As far as the writing samples are concerned, I would email the grad coordinator and ask. In my humble opinion it will defintely give your application a boost if it's relevant.

Erm as far as I know most schools have a teaching component to their degrees. The difference just lies in the way they administer that component. Some of them advertise TA positions as a way to make some money, some make it compulsary to teach at least one class and some require you to do only a minimum of tutorial-style teaching. I think at the end of the day it's up to you to do your research and look for which schools do what. For schools that only require a small amount of teaching I would email and ask if there are limits on the amount of teaching hours you can put in. Hope that helps!

It might be a good idea to make sure your transcripts reach the school before the deadline and then send them another transcript later on after the deadline that shows your first semester grades. You might wanna contact your grad school first though to see if they'd be happy for you to do this or if it's a complete waste of time! What I did was to send off my trancripts as they were and to also send off a complete 'statement' of modules that I've take right from the start of my course to the very end but this was only possible because I've already chosen my modules upto the end of my course.
-
ooo not so sure it's as simple as that ^. Two unis I applied to were determined that the transcript be sent to them directly by my home uni.
-
Are you studying in the UK now? I had similar problems with transcripts because my uni allows us access to our transcripts online and we're meant to print those off and send them ourselves to other UK unis that we're applying to. Waht I ended up doing for the US unis is printing off my transcripts from online and getting them verified and sent off by my uni registrar. That way I just printed them off my online academic records account and my uni stamped them and sent them off as official. Hope that helps!
