  1. I'm a member there as well. I totally forgot about that thread/forum (saw it back in November). Thanks for the reminder! Well, somewhat. My nerves probably don't thank you, but I'm done with them anyway.
  2. To add to my previous post for this thread....this just happened to me today: I went to get the mail. There was only one thing in the box: a nice, big, white envelope. Me: "Yes, I got in somewhere! Finally, some sort of notification. I wonder where?" *Grabs letter greedily and almost gets hit by a car as I try to cross the street* (my mailbox is across the road from my house, I know weird) *Stares down at envelope* *Blinks* "H& R Block..wha? What? This isn't an acceptance letter?! Damn it!" *Storms back into house and rips the tax organizer into shreds*
  3. Yep, pretty sure it was a mass email as I got the exact same thing and am applying for the Epi MPH program. I'm hoping that the 4/15 notification date is just the last absolute day we could know, and that they'll actually be notifying us sooner (fingers crossed!). I'll just say that if I get in somewhere else and am notified before Berkeley (especially if it's Emory or WashU who have earlier notification dates), I will not be going to Berkeley...if they don't feel committing and notifying me in a timely manner, then I'm not going to hold out just for them. It is ridiculous, I completely agree.
  4. Good to know it's not just me, too! Work distracts me, but I do have to deal with people on occasion (and that can be annoying, especially when they interrupt my daydreams of wonderful acceptance offers/inner grumblings about how I'm not going to get in ANYWHERE). I also tend to get antsy and anxious at work once I've realized it's been more than 30 mins since I last checked my email (I'm up and about and on my feet the whole time). I then have to stop what I'm doing, make a beeline to the break room for "some water," and check my phone for emails (thank God for my iphone).
  5. Sounds like a daydream I keep having! One can dream and hope and wish!
  6. I'm afraid of spiders as well. This is a fear I consider quite normal. However, I am also terrified of those pressurized cans cinnamon rolls, biscuits, crescent rolls, etc come in. I refuse to open them myself, and I have to leave the room when someone else opens them or I will scream and almost jump out of my skin once they "pop" open. I am not, though, afraid of balloons popping.
  7. No problem. I appreciated my guidance counselor letting me know, so I thought I'd pass it along.
  8. A guidance counselor at my previous grad school told me about pipl.com. It's basically an advanced people search. This along with googling yourself will give you an idea of what is out there about you. Some of the info pipl.com generates isn't accurate (3rd party websites), but it will reveal what exactly is available. This is one of the times I thank my parents for making me go by the shortened version of my middle name. It was a hassle growing up, but when adcomms search for my legal name they won't find much about me. The name I go by comes up with some info, but thankfully nothing embarrassing.
  9. I refuse to calculate my costs after looking at this thread. I don't want to know, I like the little bit of sanity I have left.
  10. I believe mine are saying: Adcom #1: "Good undergrad GPA, good grad GPA...Wait, isn't she applying for a Masters not a PhD?" Adcom #2: "Yes, but it says here she'd like to get a PhD as well." Adcom #3: "Wait, doesn't she have three bachelor's degrees in addition to the other masters?" Adcom #2: "Yes, she currently has four degrees. She's applying for the Masters but then plans on continuing on to the PhD." Adcom #1: "So, she'd end up with...6 degrees then?" Adcom #3: "What, does she want to wallpaper her house with diplomas or something?!" *Pause, all three thinking the exact same thing* Adcom #1: "Dudes, I so do not feel like being number 5, and possibly 6." Adcom #2: "Yep, academic slut!" Adcom #3: "Yes! Another REJECT! Those are so much fun!" *All three laugh menacingly.*
  11. Trust me, I know. I used to live in Colorado where snow is expected from October until May. There it's a fact of life and people grind their teeth and get on with it. However, here (mainly because we only get this much snow once every decade and don't have the means to deal with the roads) it's more like, "OMG, is that a snowflake?!?! Take cover! Now!" And we stay hidden like little chipmunks hibernating for winter until it all magically disappears. At least in Colorado I could go shopping or to work or to school. I know the south is a laughingstock when it comes to snow for the rest of the country. Believe me, I used to laugh along with everyone else when I didn't live here. Now it's more laughing out of insanity. But at least I can go to work today- if I can make it out of my driveway.
  12. Growing up in the south, I never saw that much snow. Then I moved to Colorado for my Masters degree and naively assumed that snow = Snow Day! Ahh, the disappointment I felt when the first good snow arrived and I still had to get up, go to work, and then spend the rest of the daylight in class. After two years of living in Denver, I definitely lost my affinity for snow and actually began to hate the stuff. But now, after two years back in the south, I am starting to enjoy it (this was the first time since that first snow storm in Denver that I've actually enjoyed it). But that doesn't mean I enjoy being stuck in the house with only walking as a means of transportation since Atlanta doesn't have the means to deal with any snow/ice that actually accumulates. But you should enjoy the snow for the first few times you see it, then when it sticks around all winter and it's been 5 months since you've seen grass you'll be glad for it to finally disappear!
  13. Ha! The current version with me obsessively checking email and websites because I have nothing else to do. I'm all for it! Oh, and for any others out there in the same position. Stumbleupon is always a nice way to waste time. I'd forgotten about it.
  14. Thanks for the tip about the MIT course. Yeah, netflix is a current addiction of mine. I've managed to get through their entire collection of Dr. Who, Torchwood, Robin Hood (BBC version), and MI-5. I'm all for British television.
  15. Eli- Exactly. I'm from GA too, so there's really nothing to do but sit here until the ice melts. Especially after our local grocer (within walking distance) has run out of pretty much everything useful and that means no more daily snow hikes to the store just for the heck of it. Eigen- Thanks for the suggestions! I've been doing the open courses through Johns Hopkins' School of Public Health, but I'll check these out as well. katerific- Thank you too! I'll check out TVTropes, too! A time vampire is exactly what I need since work was cancelled for tomorrow and that means I'm not going back in until Tuesday! I do enjoy the time off, but it's hard for me to be so idle).
