I got into the BSW program at McGill, so if I don't get an offer from Carleton in the end, this will be my backup
-
Has anyone who was waitlisted at Carleton heard anything yet? 👀
-
I applied last year, don't worry, this is normal! It'll look like that until you get a decision.
-
Congratulations! Were you on the waitlist initially? I'd been wondering if anyone who was waitlisted had heard anything back yet as I'm hoping to get accepted from the waitlist!
-
Crossing my fingers that you get accepted off the waitlist at the other school for fall 2024! 😌
-
I didn’t apply to McGill (couldn’t cause they only have an advanced standing MSW), but I am from Montreal, so if I don’t get into Carleton (I’m waitlsited), then we can always hang out if you’d like!
-
A full time course load for an entire school year is usually 8-10 classes; so 4-5 classes per semester. But I think as long as you maintain a mid B average than the amount of courses you're taking won't matter? To be completely sure, I'd contact the school you got into to ask.
-
I haven't heard anything yet either!
-
I admittedly considered this as well because I have family in the states until I remembered student loans probably wouldn't even cover half of the tuition/fees 😂 I hope you get into uManitoba so you don't have to go with this option!
-
Oooof, a program in the states?? Wouldn't that cost a lot more than a program here? 😩
-
Based on previous year's forums, this was a good sign for people, so it is likely one for you as well.

Got waitlisted for Carleton's non BSW program for the second time :'). Considering the fact that they send offers out to 35 people it makes sense that more than 10 declines are needed for offers to be made to people on the waitlist. I calculated and since they made offers to 9 people on the waitlist last year and the program is only big enough for a cohort of 25 people each year, that means 19 applicants rejected their offers last year. (meaning 16 people accepted their offers and they needed to fill the cohort which explains why they made offers to 9 people on the waitlist). Either way, good luck to anyone who's also on the waitlist, and I hope you receive positive results from the other schools you applied to

It's best to accept your offer at uWindsor while you wait to hear back from other schools! That way, if you receive rejections, you'll at least have a spot at uWindsor. If you accept the offer, and then receive an offer from a program/school that you believe has more pros than the program at uWindsor, then you can contact them and reject the previously accepted offer to accept an offer somewhere else. Ps: congratulations on your acceptance! I'm also waiting to hear back from Carleton, fingers crossed we both get favorable news
-
That assumption is not necessarily correct... there are many people who meet/exceed minimum qualifications every year who get rejected.

They don't change right as February starts (or at least it didn't last year). Last year, applicant's (including myself) received an email once all applications had been reviewed (that was closer to the end of February) and statuses only began changing a day or so after that point.
-
I've not applied to uToronto, but I'm also currently manifesting an acceptance to Carleton lol. Your application definitely sounds strong! I know someone who had similar experience and got accepted, so I'm manifesting an acceptance for you. Good luck, love! ❤️

Your app status for Carleton likely has changed to "recommended for assessment" by now if you submitted everything you had to submit - you'll see that on Carleton Central (Carleton 360 doesn't really update the app status). My status changed in mid November before my last referee submitted their reference. Based on past experience, my app status for Carleton changed sometime in Feb 2023 and remained on "in review by department" until September/October 2023 when I was declined admission because I didn't get off the waitlist. So, I wouldn't expect a new app status change for Carleton until February, unless there are less applicants this year
-
Which school are you referring to?
-
Congratulations on getting accepted! I just finished my application a few days ago (🥴) so hopefully I hear back soon

UBCO is a Canadian school - University of BC Okanagan. While most programs will notify applicants in the new year, not all schools follow the same schedule
-
definitely not just you; it is quiet this year!
-
I submitted my applications for Carleton and uManitoba over the weekend. Anyone else submit theirs?
-
I'm applying to the foundational programs at Carleton (for the second time, I was waitlisted for fall 2023), and uManitoba as well. Good luck!

If you have a good amount of volunteer experience in social services then you should be fine, but if you don't have any type of experience related to social service work I'd suggest holding off on applying until you gain some of that experience. Especially since most schools in Canada require a minimum of 3500 hours of paid or volunteer social service experience at the time your application is submitted

Hey y'all! I wanted to create this forum for anyone applying to Canadian MSW programs for fall 2024. I applied to Carleton and the part time non BSW online MSW program at Laurier for fall 2023. Got rejected from Laurier and waitlisted at Carleton. I'll be reapplying to Carleton and applying to Dalhousie and UBC-Okanagan this time around. What about you all?
