Hey! not in comp lit but I took a class w/a prof on the AdComm for UChicago. She said the program admits like 2-3 people post-covid. Maybe this is helpful info?

Not sure this will still be helpful to you, but maybe for other people that get interviews...my "cheat sheet" has the following: 1) What am I proposing to study? 2) Why history? 3) What primary sources am I intending to use/where will I find them? 4) Why X school? 5) My questions Good luck everyone!

If a specific PhD program only accepts a small cohort (let's say, 5 people), how many do y'all think they interview?

I don't know the dates for yale - what's the other school? I may have info. feel free to dm me

My understanding is that Harvard doesn't interview, whereas Yale interviews all finalists. As there is only one Yale interview on the results page, I'd assume most invitations have not been sent out -- I'm expecting a flood of posts when they are. But that's just my suspicion.

Berkeley ES decisions should be coming out soon...right? How's everyone managing? Do we have any news?

I'm not sure what other people will say, but I'd think this is not necessarily a bad sign. If the prof reached out unprompted to update you, I would suspect they saw something in your app and research that they valued and were genuinely disappointed they couldn't convince the rest of the committee. You might just be a better fit in another program. All this to say - sounds like your research is probably valuable, the prof sees it, and hopefully a different program will have more faculty on board.

Hey! Yes - I've been in touch with my POI for about a year. I study something pretty niche, so it was difficult to find faculty with expertise to mentor & I had to start looking around kind of early. Feel free to message me and I can share a little more specifically
