  1. Follow up on what I said as I cross posted this in both classics and art history and didn't realize which one I was replying too!! It was an archaeology program within an art history department so as long as you're not focusing on mediterranean archaeology, all's good!
  2. Thank you! I really wish I could but I was asked not to publicly share as they are currently trying to figure out whether or not their current students will continue to receive funding and haven't disclosed that information to them yet. I can tell you that it isn't a program dealing with the literature or ancient history sides of the field and the program isn't within a classics department at the institution. I hope that info helps a bit!
  3. Incoming rant: I'm officially done with Classics and academia. Got a phone call last night from a program director after receiving a rejection from their school. They told me I was absolutely perfect for their program and that they had been looking forward to supervising me given the similarity in research interests. I was rejected not because I'm not qualified or a good fit for the program but because of the current political situation in the USA. As they are a public institution coupled with the fact that I'm an international student, they have no way of guaranteeing funding for the entirety of the program or if they will even have the ability to fund the students they currently have in the program. Three years of trying to get into a PhD program has ended with this.

  5. Only school I've heard back from so far is Arizona. Applied for their Anthropology program (Mediterranean Archaeology) but they don't have funding for any archaeology positions. I've instead been asked if I would be willing to join their MA program which is in the Classics department. It is pretty well funded and includes tuition remissions. Struggling with the future decision since I do already have a masters. But I also know that if I don't get into a PhD program, this will be my only opportunity to stay in the field.🫠
  6. Has anyone heard back from Art and Architectural History at UVA?
  7. I feel very similarly about this being my last time going through the application process. If it doesn't work out this year, I'm not putting myself through this entire process again. It's too hard and mentally draining.
  8. I guess I'll start this off! This will be my third round applying for PhD programs so hopefully third times the charm! My focus is on programs that are either Mediterranean Archaeology or Classics programs with Archaeology streams. I have about 10 schools on list so fingers crossed this year will be my year!
  9. Has anyone else contacted Cincinnati to get some sort of official news and heard nothing back?
  10. Went for a visit last week and found out I'm officially waitlisted for that program. Very disappointed as during the entire process, they kept making comments to people they introduced me to that they were trying to convince me to accept their offer. This is the only school I've heard semi-good news from, and, as an international student, might be the only way I can stay in the US. Frantically starting to look for jobs that are even remotely related to classics/archaeology/museums just in case I don't get off the waitlist. Second time applying for PhD programs and am really getting disheartened with this entire experience.
  11. I'm in another program at Penn right now. If you'd like some inside info on the innerworkings of AAMW from someone outside the program, I'd be happy to provide it!
  12. Still holding out for Cincinnati and Bryn Mawr. I'm at Penn right now and really hoping Bryn Mawr pulls through given the connection between the two schools🤞🍀
  13. When I emailed the department last week, they told me they were still in the decision making process. Got to love the conflicting info😅
  14. Has anyone heard from Classical and Near Eastern Archaeology at Bryn Mawr or Classics at Cincinnati?
  15. Has anyone heard back from the Archaeology department at Bryn Mawr?
  16. I applied but haven't heard back from them yet.
  17. I'm in the same boat as you! Waitlisted by PhD programs last year but really hoping the post bacc year I'm doing turns everything around into offers!
  18. Aside from Duke, I haven't heard anything from the other 5 schools I applied to. Definitely starting on the freak out spiral. But a lot of my professors keep telling me that no two schools are the same, they don't always release info to everyone at the same time and until you get a definite no, you are still in the running. I will say though that I'm at the point where I'm starting to look for jobs so that I can stay in the USA for another year before potentially applying again. This is my second round with PhD applications and am starting to feel quite defeated.
  19. No idea. I applied for the Ancient Mediterranean World track of the Classics program.
  20. I hope not. Still waiting on Cincinnati, Chicago, Bryn Mawr, Princeton and Yale.
  21. I was wondering the same thing. Haven't heard anything yet from them either.
  22. First rejection this cycle from Duke. Was very surprised and disappointed as when I spoke with the director of the graduate program he all but said I was highly likely to be admitted. Also applied to the Bridge to PhD program that they offer but the letter made no mention of that. Emailed the school's grad admissions for clarification on the matter.
  23. Thanks!! I *think* I'm applying to one school where I was waitlisted, but the rest are ones that weren't really taking archaeology students last year but are this year. Currently dealing with an advisor that's not actually advising which is lovely, especially when he's supposed to organize my reference letters for me🙃
  24. Thanks for making this!! This'll be round two for me when it comes to PhD applications. I have a BA in Classical Studies/Greek and Roman Archaeology, and an MSc in Classical Art and Archaeology. Still trying to figure out the list of schools I'm going to apply to next year after being rejected/waitlisted last year.
  25. I ended up applying for the Post Bacc at UPenn. Happy to say that I got in!! I'm the alternate for the fellowships so here's hoping one of the two people that got it was able to secure a place somewhere else!
