  1. I sent an email to the people I interviewed with if they had any information on my status about a week ago and got no response. I have gotten a few other offers so I tried to express that it was more just this was the last school that was up in the air and I’d like to make a decision soon. I know some professors want to distance themselves if it’s a rejection because some people don’t take it well. I also got no response when I emailed them before applying to ask about the program so I wouldn’t read too deeply into not getting a response back.
  2. Did you get a response from Iowa State or are you just choosing Georgia State regardless? I had an interview like a month ago but haven’t gotten a response yet. They said they wouldn’t have a decision until the beginning of March. It’s the last pending application decision I have.
  3. Great! Sounds like they didn’t like someone because in my experience a lot of places notify people about a week after an interview if they have been accepted. Bad for someone else but great for you. All my interviews ended with a “we hope to make a decision by the end of next month” which in my experience is a polite no. No other requests came in over the last couple hours so I think that’s the end of the line for me. Best of luck to everyone else.
  4. Last year there were two mistakes on the admission guide for MSU and the application portal that I emailed Dr. Winke about for clarification. GRE was a requirement for NAU last year, they removed it this year. None of these speak to the quality of the research and how it matches with what I am interested in for my future studies.
  5. The majority of academic websites are not very good and often difficult to navigate. They often have to put in requests with an IT department or webmaster who has lots of other stuff to do. In addition, they are probably mostly interested in their research and studies. Having a nice website is not really important to if they get funding for example. It is like the last thing on their list.
  6. Despite what it says on the website GRE is not needed at NAU. This is from both Dr Kang and Dr. Egbert who is in charge of the graduate program information.
  7. I received an interview request (and possibly already accepted?) at University of South Florida. I got the request three days (two if you consider the holiday on Monday) after the deadline which is incredibly quick, usually a fast turn around is about two weeks. Today I got an email asking me to create a university e-mail and I have access to the student portal, which I have only seen after people have been accepted and seems a bit strange. Interview isn't until Thursday.
  8. I get the impression that Dr. Crowther hasn’t ever really been super impressed with me, so I wouldn’t be surprised.
  9. MS Ed in TESOL. Several years of teaching university level English abroad. Two peer reviewed publications (single authored), a couple presentations. Previously, spread over a few years, applied to 6 programs. Resulted in 3 interviews and no acceptances.
  10. Michigan State is very earlier because of the amount of applications they get and they have a fairly large department. For most schools it depends on if they make first cuts by committee or individually. Acceptance rates are very low and a couple have already passed their usual response window so I wouldn’t be shocked to be declined.
  11. Thanks for the information but I didn’t apply to the linguistics department. I applied to the psychology department.
  12. I applied to 10 programs and it is not looking good right now. In process: Temple - hopping to hear something this week Purdue - hoping to hear something this week Hawaii - around next week they will send out requests Iowa State - around next week they will send out requests Northern Arizona - won't be until February University of South Florida - probably won't be until February University of Mississippi - I have no idea (most likely) rejected: Michigan State - did not receive an interview request in December University of California Santa Cruz - a bit of a stretch as it is a related discipline, but they already sent out requests Northwestern - someone posted about the open house, others said they got no communication until a decision letter came
  13. Got word back today and that was pretty much a polite rejection. So, that looks like the end of the road for me. Out of five schools I got five rejections. Not looking forward to doing this again next year.
  14. There is still a bit of time, and you've had some interviews so you might have one or two more options. It's probably a relief to have at least one option.
