It was clear on my rejection from Virginia Tech, since my reason for rejection was "non-competitive". Other programs have me waitlisted, officially and unofficially, personally those programs took too long in making a decision. Regardless of the outcomes from the remaining programs, I plan on attending UCI. They have something really special cooking out there, and I am excited to be apart of that.

UC Irvine visitation day is this weekend, some students might reject after their visit, which could open up some spots. UC Davis has sent out first round offers, and should be sending out second round offers hopefully soon (I'm in the same boat as you for Davis).

1st round offers and visitation day (which is remote, I believe) have been sent out. 2nd round offers should be coming out in mid-march. They told me that if you don't here back from them, than probably don't expect an offer from them.

UCD = UC Davis? I do not believe they have sent them yet, I am still waiting on Davis.

Probably not directly, but if a professor that you directly mention reads your application, that might help you out a little more.

Exactly, additionally I don't even know if it holds any additional weight, if one fills it out or not.

Don't know about interviews but I think they are still looking at applications. From the UCLA admission website they had 700+ applications last year, and they also sent out a google forms in mid-December about listing top 3 faculty.

I agree, and it does seem that those that got interviews and accepted are on their high priority list.

Question for you @randomwalker, were you also contacted by a faculty member from UC Irvine with a personalized email recently? I am wondering if this is customary for the department or a recruiting tactic. Thanks!

Yes, Last week (1/20) I received an email about, an interview for 1/23, It stated that they are only interview a small number of applicants whom they "seriously consider for admission". Since there were only about 10 time slots given, and the informal nature, I am assuming that this cohort that I was in, was considerably small < 10. I woke up this morning to an Acceptance email, with details to follow.

For those that applied to UC Irvine, my interviewer stated the department's goal is to send out offers by the end of January - 1st week of February. Also If I haven't heard back from a school (NCSU), but have seen both rejection and accepted offers does that mean I should assume that I am on a waitlist of some sort?
