  1. Wellllll- congrats to everyone and your efforts this year! This was my first time round applying to grad school, and it was way more intense than I imagined lol. Wouldn't have been able to do it alone, so thank you. My final list for acceptances: UChicago SAIC MICA Pratt Boston U MassArt CalArts Northwestern 😀 So fortunate to ping-pong stress and positivity with you all. Best of luck! I'm likely heading to Chicago - hmu if you'll be in the area too
  2. have calarts (integrated media) rejections gone out? I haven’t receive a call/acceptance nor a rejection….. yet
  3. I haven't heard from Washington state yet
  4. Anyone have experience with asking for a deferral? I don't want to, but I might have to defer a year. I'm nervous about asking-- Does anybody have tips on how I should go about it? lol pls help 🙃 Also: curious bc I can't find any info on this, nor did I ask bc I don't intend on going here anyway, but-- how many students are in the SAIC painting program?
  5. I haven't received my rejection email from CalArts yet, assuming I'll get one since acceptances went out : /
  6. They offered a hotel for two nights, but nothing beyond that. edit: I thought was nice of them to offer the hotel btw, especially since in-person wasn't required
  7. I absolutely love how transparent and straightforward northwestern is in every aspect. Thanks for the link!
  8. Question for yale finalists: from my understanding- they required in-person interviews, right? If so-- did they pay for your flights, hotels, time taken off from work, etc.? What kind of financial support did they offer for the interview? Just curious!
  9. lol- right?? It's a literal $180,000 check. absolute no brainer
  10. Yes- of course! So happy to share this with you too. Supporting others makes the process a lot more enjoyable. I agree with you; in-person interviews are classist and unfair. All interviews should strictly be through zoom, imo. Hopefully, they will try their best to be unbias but idk : / Out of the 21 invited, seven were at the in-person interview. Three of us traveled from out of state, and the rest were from Chicago. I can see why people would be bothered by the not-so-great studios, but personally, I'd still go if my studio was a dumpster if that meant a full ride + stipend lol
  11. I just got out of my interview with Pratt (painting). They are really friendly, easygoing, and also pretty funny. It was the most comfortable and natural interview that I've had so far. Don't sweat it- you'll do great.
  12. Received an acceptance call from SAIC in painting last night- yay! I've also gotten into U Chicago and MassArt. No rejections from the interviews I've had so far, which is a good sign. I'm waiting to hear back after interviews with Boston U, MICA, Northwestern, Rutgers, CalArts, and BU, and I have my final interview with Pratt today. I applied to the painting department at these schools btw. Phew what a ride. I've been following along on this thread, but if anyone has gotten acceptance calls/e-mails from any of these schools, pls lmk! Super curious as to where these schools are at in the process. Haven't heard back from Columbia, RISD, Yale, or UCLA yet- Hopefully this week ; ) lol jk. Not too hurt about the unofficial rejections. Good luck to all out there, and congrats to those that are receiving invites and acceptances to your dream schools! So exciting!
  13. As you mentioned, the interview didn't include typical bullet point questions such as why grad school, why now, why northwestern. The faculty asked specific questions regarding my work, reference letters, and statement. They were attentive and inquisitive during the interview, which was a pleasant change from my prior experience, where the discussions were more interrogative and straight-faced. They were genuinely curious, kind, and cool. There was a social following the interviews where I met current students and interviewees and had one-on-one convos with the faculty. I personally have a difficult time in this type of situation, for it felt like an extended two-hour interview, and I am also v sensitive to large gatherings in small spaces. Kind of stressful and draining for me. I wish I had stuck to an online interview for this reason bc I felt like I blew it with my anxiety being out of control. Others seemed to enjoy it, though. The building that the studio spaces were located in is an old office building. The studios are in the basement and lack windows which is disappointing to me personally, for the material I work with requires natural light (likely to venture out with new materials, though, so maybe this would be fine.) They said that 21 students were invited to interview, and five are accepted. None of the current students have jobs and are able to live off of the stipend, and they also apply to grants the school offers to fund materials. Good luck!! I hope you get in! Thank you for the tip you left in the other comment about the questions being specific to each individual btw. It was huge for me since I was stuck in the mindset of typical questions. I was able to give myself space to think about my work and myself more deeply. Even if the interview was unsuccessful, I still have an even better understanding of myself and my work. I appreciate you!
  14. Hi- anybody going to Northwestern in-person interview this weekend? How did the virtual interviews go for those of you that were invited? Get any tough questions?
  15. Hi! Has anyone heard back from the painting departments of : UMichigan, Hunter, Washington St, or Columbia yet? I haven't received an interview/rejection letter form these schools but i did hear back from UChicago today and got an acceptance letter! yay
