  1. Congratulations to everyone hearing good news this week and sending lots of support and encouragement to those who are feeling disappointed by this process!

I can see a rejection from Iowa now through the application portal, but still haven't received a letter. Is anyone else in the same boat? Should I still expect a letter?

Can't you accept the current offer, attend the program for the fall and spring, and reapply in the fall to Iowa? If you get accepted, you can renege from the initial program

Do people really do this? And does it affect their reputation in the MFA/writing community?

Snail mail rejection Iowa Fiction March 8. Heads up for all applicants never, ever, to go to their mailbox again. Not true if you don't see it

Sorry to hear this! I hope you're taking care of yourself in light of this news!

Would you mind sharing when the letter was dated? Trying to prepare for when I might get something in the mail.

My guess is they're probably done, unfortunately. I was wondering about it too.

I checked, and last year they mailed out a lot of rejection letters that were dated as March 5 (even though all the letters apparently took like 2 weeks to actually show up in anyone's mailbox??). I think they started notifying a little earlier this year, too, which in my mind translates to "they've probably made their rejection decisions by now too". (So I'm anticipating a rejection letter in my mailbox by the end of March...)

This is my first year on the forum, though. And I don't know anything about how Iowa's waitlist process works... Has anyone been waitlisted for Iowa? Or have all the calls so far just been for acceptances?

I'm also assuming they're done, sadly. I would like to know how the waitlist process works for Iowa as well if anyone on here is familiar.

A classic MFA message board lurker that just found this forum type deal... Got an acceptance from Iowa fic and a waitlist from Pitt poetry. Don't have family to tell this to so sorry if I come off as bragging, more just feel a little hollow in the excitement and wanted to share with some, any folks... Anyone got any news from Iowa poetry and/or Brown? Not quite sure how this place works so apologies if it's already been discussed!

Congratulations! Those are both big accomplishments. With or without family to share the news with, I hope you are taking time to celebrate and do something nice for yourself! :)

Would you mind sharing when you heard about your Iowa fiction acceptance and if you have a sense of whether all acceptances have gone out?

No problem! This process is so not transparent, and I wish it were, especially as results come out. Would love to know the mindset adcoms have and the process by which they execute it so that I can like... get a better grip on why I'm accepted to one program but not another. Also, question for you and anyone else: did Iowa start notifying poetry yet? I only saw fiction updates

I haven't seen any IWW poetry notifications yet.

  7. Hi everyone!

This is my first application cycle and I have been benefitting greatly from reading all of your responses in this thread! I know that two IWW fiction acceptances have been posted in the MFA Draft Facebook group. As acceptances seem to have gone out on Monday and Tuesday this week, does that mean that those who haven't heard have been either waitlisted or rejected at this point?
