  1. I'm expecting a rejection letter, but their Admissions News page says:
  2. Boy, I hope that's true, but I can't help but be pessimistic, considering the pathetic anti-intellectual movement running rampant in the U.S., including amongst our political "leaders."
  3. Still in limbo here. Somebody posted a waitlist result for Minnesota's Comm Studies program (which is the one I've been short stacked at), but I emailed the grad coordinator and was told there was no update for me yet, but that they do, in fact, keep a waitlist. I guess that's good though? Maybe media acceptances haven't been decided completely yet. Anyway, I'll just hang out in my personal purgatory over here until the bitter end.
  4. Sorry, and I hear you. My only legitimate chance (unless Washington's English department throws me a curveball acceptance) is the place where I've made it into the small stack of 20. After speaking to a POI on Friday though, I know they're only taking 3 of the dozen or so media applicants (which includes me). Regardless, I might be in for quite a wait before I know something concrete, because they hold onto that stack of 20 until the very end as an unofficial waitlist.
  5. Not explicitly, but...let's just say I've been looking at a few job postings over the past couple of days.
  6. That wasn't my result, but I did get the official rejection from Comm Studies at 12:12am CST today.
  7. Ah, I see. Thanks for the info and congrats again!
  8. Thanks for letting us know, and congratulations! If you don't mind, was the email individually sent? Or was it a mass email? And, what do you mean by a personal letter? Sorry, it's my first choice, so I'm freaking out a bit here...
  9. Anybody claiming the new USC acceptance on the results board?
  10. Thanks. Unfortunately, I bit the bullet and emailed UNC. It's a no-go. For the rest of you folks still waiting though, notifications will apparently be sent from the Graduate School over the next three to four weeks. Damn, at this point, I'll be stoked to get in ANYWHERE.
  11. Well, no email yesterday from Vilma at UNC. I'm going to take that as not so good news...unless (and this is me in fantasy land), they're all like, "Hey, let's email admitted students on Friday. That'd be a nice way to end the week!" I can dream, right?
  12. Cool, thanks! I'm definitely not going to be able to focus on this class I'm sitting in now.
  13. Thanks for the condolences! And, congrats on the UNC waitlist! Out of curiosity, was the email directly to you? Or was it a mass email? (I'm hoping they're maybe working their way down the alphabet or something with emails, if they're going out individually...).
  14. Is that good or bad panic? Hopefully, it's good! Also, it looks like Brown's Modern Culture and Media program called their 4 admits yesterday. I think there was somebody else frequenting the Comm area who applied there too. Oh well though, it was a long shot for me anyway.
  15. Just to clarify, this is a program which no one else on the board has applied to (I don't think, at least), and my app is still in the running. And thanks, jmac!
  16. I made it into the short stack for one of my programs! Over 150 apps and I made it into the final 20! Man, even though that's not an acceptance, it feels pretty good after 2 rejections in early February being my only news so far.
  17. Thanks for the info, and congrats on your acceptance and fellowship! There are a few of us here who applied to USC, and most of us haven't heard from the department at all. The only contact I've had was to sort out a missing LOR. Hopefully, the visiting weekend being scheduled for mid-March means we'll all be hearing soon, though!
  18. Oh goodness, yes. The humanities don't "produce" or bring in grants/money, according to many lovely critics, and therefore, they have no place in a university setting. Of course, these people forget the fact that their English classes taught them how to read and write, or that humanities classes study what it is and what it means to be human, or myriad other reasons why a balance between humanities, social sciences, and hard sciences are necessary for a fruitful society. A recent conversation with my sister highlighted the sorts of attitudes humanities folks are up against. We were discussing a paper she was writing about the Clash and consumerism for a course (a measly 4 page paper, I might add), when out of the blue, she goes, "I'm just not used to bullshitting this much...you know, being in the sciences and all." To which I replied, "Well, maybe if you actually had something to say on the topic, it wouldn't be bullshitting, would it?" Put simply, there is a perception here in the U.S. that humanities=easy and are made of bullshitting.
  19. Congrats, Strangefox!!! I bet that takes quite a load off of your shoulders!
  20. I haven't the slightest idea...maybe application season stress is getting to some people in mysterious ways? Thanks! And, for future reference, it's madam. Congrats on your SUNY acceptance!!
  21. To the UNC folks: I've been creeping on the results board, looking at UNC's overall method of notifications across various departments, and it seems as if they've moved to email across the board this year. If you look at all the notifications--acceptance or rejection--they're by email, except for the lone Communication acceptance, which makes me think it's likely a fake.
  22. Since that acceptance was by postal mail, it's possible the decisions are all in the mail. The timeline would match up with decisions in past years. I've been checking my status regularly on MyUNC, and there's been no change there. Regardless, I'm on pins and needles now! I'm in the same boat...some rejections went out for Minnesota's Comm Studies last week, and I didn't get one, but no acceptance or waitlist notification either. Just no word at all. It's such a trying experience!
  23. Historically, that hasn't happened with Annenberg or hasn't this early (the earliest posts from years past are from the last week in February), but things could always have changed. There's also somebody on the results board who's called bullshit on the fellowship post, due to the fact that the deadline has been extended until today. Who knows. At least with Annenberg, you're fully funded no matter what, so any old spot will do for me—fellowship or not.
  24. I'm an undergrad at the U now, so feel free to hit me up with any questions. Yes, the public transportation is quite good, and it will only get better once the new lightrail line from downtown Minneapolis running through campus to downtown St. Paul is finished. I bike year-round, even during these past few -25+F mornings, but when necessary, the lightrail runs near my house, which is a few miles from campus. If you're living nearer to campus though, there's tons of express and regular bus options that will get you there in 15 or so minutes, depending on the neighborhood, of course.
