  1. Is the fellowship your received a teaching assistant position? Or is it a fellowship with no departmental responsibilities?
  2. holy Toledo - you've got some good offers on the table!!! good for you
  3. Oh I completely understand - I'm in the same boat as you - I was just accepted into a program with full tuition remission, but wouldn't get a stipend until the second year. I wish I could be flexible with money stuff, but I can't.
  4. Oooh got it, I was under the impression that Michigan was full tuition waiver as well! It's so hard to keep track of all the schools and some schools aren't very upfront about the funding, so don't feel dumb!!
  5. Congratulations! that is exciting you have an offer on the table! yay! I'm pretty new to this all, so what school are you talking about when you say UM? U Maryland?
  6. I'm confused - why would a program discourage students from teaching after grad school? To fully focus on their studio practice? I personally would chose the program with the beautiful facilities as long as the faculty was supportive in other ways. But I don't know, everyone is so different. I'm going to turn down a fully funded offer because, after interviewing and learning more about the program, it doesn't sound like it would be a good fit. I'm nervous about turning it down, but I can apply to programs again next year. (I'm dying to know which program sticks you in the basement and is underfunded - I applied to all three programs you applied to and didn't get interviewed/into any of the three lol) Good for you for being accepted!
  7. I just got my official rejection from USF sculpture. In my mind, as I was starting the application process, this school seemed like it would be a really good fit for me and the art that I make, but who really knows. I was expecting the rejection because I know other people had heard from them in the past few weeks. I know USF is a funded program - does anyone know the stipend amount they give each year?
  8. Yeah totally - I'm in my 30's so I would definitely be older than most, but I also think that these grad programs like to see that you can have a studio practice outside of undergrad. It took me a long time to graduate from undergrad and I just finished it up this past May (yay!). But you are totally right - all of this experience helps us gain knowledge for next time. The interviews I have had have really helped me with how I think about and talk about my work. I think my next hurdle for this upcoming year will be to make the work that I want to make, not work that I think will look good in a portfolio.
  9. Have you heard from tulane yet? I had my interview a few weeks ago and then found out on Thursday that I wasn't accepted. I was so sad.
  10. Oh I would be so interested to hear if you get accepted to De Ateliers - I've been looking at their program for a few years.
  11. This is my first time applying for MFA programs and it is exhausting and emotionally draining. I am feeling burnt out and defeated. I only applied to fully funded programs, which are very competitive, so I knew the rejections would come, but I think the interviews gave me a lot of hope. I am waiting on one more program's decision, and even with full funding, I would still have to go into debt to pay for housing, materials, food, my dog - all the regular life things. I do think that getting an MFA is worth it and something that I would like to do, I am just not sure if now is the right time or if I should give myself a little more time outside of school to develop a stronger studio practice and then reapply - although, I am afraid if I don't go back soon, I won't go back for ages. who knows though. Life is weird.

  13. Thank you so much for your support ❤️ ! When I went into the application process, I knew there would be rejections, and I was trying to be realistic, I think I'm just sad that I didn't get any of the schools I was hoping for...AND it's been such a stressful few months that I can't imagine doing this all again next year...but I will. Good luck with your programs! I'll be waiting to hear about the school you interviewed with!
  14. Thank you for sharing your experience - I really appreciate it. It's so hard to have no context since this is my first time around. I do have an offer with funding, but I am not 100% sure about the program so I may do exactly what you did - take a step back and create a new body of work to apply with next year. I have been reading through the forum and, while I may be wrong, it does seem like people who have been out of undergrad for at least a coupe of years have more interviews and offers within the prestigious programs. I think you are right, and the *right* program is key.
  15. I found out yesterday that I was rejected from Tulane's Sculpture. I had an interview a couple weeks prior and I thought it had gone really well. It sounds like their program is very small. It was one of my top choices so I am bummed.
  16. Anyone hear from Cornell yet????
  17. Thank you! This is my first year applying to grad programs - I applied to 9 schools, I've had 3 interviews, a bunch of rejections, and so far only one offer. I haven't heard from any of my top choices, so it is definitely a huge disappointment.
  18. I had a very similar experience during an interview and felt quite awkward. This is my first time applying to MFA programs and that was my first interview (I have had two other interviews since then), and I felt very uncomfortable telling them that I hadn't heard from any other programs yet. I did not get accepted into that particular program and I wonder if my answer affected my chances of acceptance.
  19. Congrats!
  20. Hi, what is your discipline? I applied to USF Sculpture and haven't heard anything, which makes me believe I was rejected. When was your interview?
  21. Ugh, what a bummer for me, but good for you and thank you for letting me know. How did the interview go?
  22. Has anyone heard from UConn Sculpture or USF (University of South Florida) Sculpture. I also applied and haven't heard from Indiana Bloomington - I know other mediums got their offers already, but I haven't heard anything about Sculpture.
  23. Yeah I understand not wanting to apply after that visit. I saw you were accepted to Ohio State. I was accepted to Kent State in Ohio - maybe we will both end up in Ohio.
  24. Oh geeze, that sounds intense. Thank you for your feedback about their program. Yes, the old Hunter professor is the reason I applied to Cornell. Did you visit this year? did you apply there? Or decide not to after your visit?
