  1. Hello! I can only speak from the experience of applying to masters programs from advanced standing. I am completing my 1 year hbsw at Lakehead and received an acceptance to Lakehead's MSW as well as TMU and Carleton. I applied to 2 year MSW's for 2022-2023 and got rejected with 3000 hours experience and 92% average in a psych undergrad. However I got into Lakehead's hbsw and took that route. From those I met in the program, it seemed that people use the hbsw programs as a backup to help them get into masters programs. From my understanding, regular track (2 year) msw programs are typically harder to get into. Carleton usually gets 80-90 applications for advanced standing, whereas they get 160-180 for 2 year. For UofT, as far as I'm aware, they have significantly more applications for the 2 year than the 1 year (from what I've seen in discussions on the forums). I got accepted to 3 MSW programs with a low to mid 80 average. I increased my amount of SW related hours through my placement, as well as volunteering and summer jobs. What I really think helped me get in was a strong and personal application essay, paired with professor recommendations who knew me very well from my time at Lakehead, and the fact I was applying to advanced standing MSW's at schools that were less competitive than their 2 year programs.
  2. The summer courses are definitely intense. Most of class time was dedicated to lectures and lessons, and occasionally (depending on the professor) we may have time to work on projects during class time. Expect to be spending most nights and weekends doing projects, classwork, and catching up. However! It's so so important, especially over the summer, that your cohort plans fun activities to do together. We planned activities to help get to know each other and celebrate being done courses. While the program is intense, you really come out of it with life long friends. Some people worked during the summer- and some people left their jobs because it was just too much to be doing all at once. I personally wouldn't recommend working during the summer if you don't have to, I had a remote job during part of the time and even that was really difficult to manage. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask! The program is tough and there were definitely some bumps in the road, but overall it was definitely worth it to streamline the experience of getting a BSW and makes it easier in the longrun to apply to MSW's if thats part of your goal.
  3. Wow you guys heard back early this year! Congratulations! I'm currently in the program if you guys have any questions about it
  4. Curious who else here was accepted to Carleton's advanced standing and wants to start a fb page or something?
  5. Hey! I sign all of my documents online through a website called docusign. I made a free account a couple years back and its really served me well. Once you figure out the website its pretty user friendly!
  6. Received my acceptance to Carleton's advanced standing msw earlier today! I'll wait for the other schools to see but it was my first choice so I think I will be accepting there.
  7. When I log into Acorn, it immediately brings me to the dashboard. There it has 4 major headings: Today's Timetable, Profile Checklist, Academics, and Finances. If you were to be offered an acceptance, this is where it would show up. Under academics it will show that you are invited to the program you have applied to, and under finances it would show that you have the $500 fee to pay. If there is nothing there yet, you just probably haven't received an acceptance yet. Not sure how it updates for waitlists and rejections.
  8. I spoke too soon- went on my Carleton Central a few minutes ago and within the last hour it switched to Review in Progress by Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Affairs. My carleton 360 still says Preliminary Review Required tho lol.
  9. Me too. I was really hoping to hear back by today as historically results have come out by this date. Holding on to find out is really hard even having been through it before! Especially when the application status hasn't even moved from recommended for assessment.
  10. Mine still says that as well! Who ever knows what order they release acceptances/waitlists/rejections. Plus they're releasing everything for the 2 year and the 1 year so who knows how that impacts it as well (I'm applying for the one year).
  11. Congratulations!! That's so amazing, make sure you take the time to celebrate!!
  12. I know, me too. After getting that email earlier I started looking through previous forums for MSW's and it seems like last year a lot of people heard on the 28th, so since peoples application status is changing we can hope to hear back next week? I really don't want to wait weeks, I just want the bandaid ripped off
  13. Yes! I was happy it mentioned that not everyones application has moved past "preliminary review required". In carleton central my application says recommended for assessment still while others have said today theirs have changed to "review in progress by faculty of graduate and postdoctorial affairs" (although gradcafe stopped working for me for a few hours and now the posts from earlier today are all gone? not sure what that's about lolz).
