Actually, that is my main concern. I think my current advisor will still give me LoR but I am not sure about those other two professors. Optimistically, they can use their old letters. I know that those two other professors did not give me really good letters, probably they are average. I had a chance to read one of them, the prof offered me, which was probably considered average, ok letter. To be honest, I am not sure why I applied to those two schools. I think I was having hard time and did not want this process to be a failure again. Currently, I feel like, if I go one of them, I will not like it there and will always regret. I am currently a little depressed about not being able to go where I want and do what I want issue.

Hello, This year I applied for PhD and you can see my results from my signature. Because of financial reasons, I am not able to go to TAMU. It was the school I really wanted to go. In addition, I have a very high debt (masters in Ivy) and a full time offer from a very good well known company. I would like to know your opinions about Oregon State and CUNY Graduate Center. I want to look for a job in the academia after PhD or at least I do not want to work in a software company afterwards. My friends are suggesting me to go for work in that company and reapply again later when I am out of debt. I would really like to hear your thoughts about this situation or schools.

I am in a MS program in one of the Ivies, not UPenn so my answer probably will not help you much. My department has partnerships wih industry. Each semester a lot of companies come to the department and give talks, gather resumes etc. I do not know anybody who tried and could not find a job. Some people come to my university just for this purpose. My little advice is, check their websites and look for industry relations. If you cannot find anything on the web page just call and ask them. Try to contact students who are there. If you want to see how my department does that, just pm me and I will give you the related link and more info. Private universities are sometimes better for this kind of relationships, that's my observation. And some companies look for people from Ivy league. I am graduating this semester and I paid a lot for this Ivy League diploma but I can definitely say it is worth the money.

I do not know if it is too late to answer but what I think is both of them are really good school. It depends on who you will work with, which area. You should also consider who did what after graduation. Industrial relations may also affect, how helpful is the department to find you a job etc. For people who knows the area there may not be much difference.

I applied to USC for PhD, I have not heard anything yet. I did not receive anything like this. Does this information help you?

well... I was just going to reject a school. they are not my top choice and they had not offered funding. then I received an email about funding. this changes a lot... now I cannot basically reject them. today was the deadline but apparently not, since I just received the news. I also asked for extension from another school, they forwarded me to someone else but still no reply. I am waitlisted for funding from my top choice that's why there is so much confusion...

I am in the same boat. My offer gives a precise time, 5pm PDT. So, I am not sure about yours but I would assume it is 5pm local time.

dec 15 was the deadline I guess. I remember doing that day... last year I had also applied and they did not tell me anything till I asked which was april 23. I will wait one more week before asking, it is just annoying.

Here is what I know from a friend at Rice. They already made decisions and recruiter weekend was like 2-3 weeks ago. I got an unofficial rejection from a prof but I haven't received any official notifications, he told me I will. There may still be some hope for being waitlisted but I don't think they will ever tell you you are waitlisted.

last year I had been through this. my two recommenders were from my home country so I never told them. one of them was from my current school, so I told her. she was shocked. this year I talked again that I will apply at first she did not want to write a letter but eventually she wrote, same as last year. in summary, i did not tell the ones if I did not have to.

Currently, I have seen a lot of acceptances from the schools I applied that I still haven't heard anything. I try not to think about them as all rejections but still. I lost my hope. Maybe phd is not for me, this was my second try this year.

Hello guys, I have seen a few acceptances from the results page without any pattern of date etc. Anyone knows anything about that place related to PhD applications?

worse is, not receiving any response from such a professor, which is currently my case. and I know that another person was accepted to that lab. still no official rejections but heard an unofficial one from another person, so not listing it. if wondering which one, just pm me.

I have friends who got acceptances from schools I applied to, and I haven't heard anything. It really pisses me off. I have been checking my mails every hour which is kind of crazy (I also mean postal mail). I would really like to hear the rejections if I am not on the waiting list. What is this waiting time for? Just give us some time that you will make your decisions so we can plan accordingly. I am also applying for full time jobs as a backup so it would be great to know something.
