  1. i don't know if you guys stumbled upon Nikipedia yet, but it's really useful resource! :] https://wiki.duke.edu/display/nickipedia/Home anyone looking at stanbacks?
  2. I'm also coming from CA sans car! Same program and focus too :] I'm going to search for a summer internship in Durham, so I can move out early and get adjusted. I have a friend who's a current student and I'm going to sublet from her for summer.
  3. i've heard similar things as well. i'm leaning more toward Duke, esp bc of location. I want to end up on the east coast eventually to do national or international energy policy. I feel like UCSB would be better for CA energy policy. As for money, UCSB would be SO SO SO MUCH CHEAPER! I'm a CA resident, so I'd get in-state tuition and it's a public university. Basically, 2 yrs tuition at UCSB < 1 yr tuition at Duke.. I've visited UCSB before, since my sister goes there for undergrad. I'm going to their open house on April 4th to find out more.
  4. For the MEM programs at Duke Nicholas and UCSB Bren, which is the better option for environmental/energy policy? Does anyone have insight into school reputation and strength of alumni network for each program? I'm going to be visiting each school for admit day to see which program is a better fit also. I'm just curious about people's perceptions/knowledge about these programs... Thanks so much!!
  5. why would they not email when the decisions are out???
  6. yep! now just waiting for flight prices to drop..
  7. for everyone that got accepted into Duke, is anyone going to attend the Admitted Students Visitation Weekend April 1-2?
  8. there's a Yale FES thread in the Government Affairs section: people are definitely on their toes!!
  9. accepted to duke as well! have 1 prereq to fill i'm so relieved i got into 1 school so far! waiting on the others now.. :D:D gluck to everyone!!!!
  10. I called Yale's admission office yesterday to ask about the admit process for MESc/MEM. they're just starting to read apps and all notices for admission will be electronic! everyone gets notified the same day. it'll be around march 15th
  11. i did! the other 3 programs i applied to were for environmental management.. so i don't know how good my fit is w.global affairs.. which concentration did you apply for? i chose environment/energy policy. ::fingers crossed!!::
  12. whaaa? i thought it wasn't rolling admissions.. their deadline is tomorrow.. and they're already accepting students? what concentration did you choose?
  13. im starting yoga teacher training tomorrow! it might come in handy in grad school around finals season.. de-stress w.yoga sessions, anyone?
  14. E. Hoi-polloi ~ the masses; common people i might have quarters of the monetary kind and/or lodgings, but i have no enemies to whom to give no quarter! quarter (n) ~ pity or mercy shown toward an enemy or opponent who is in one's power After being promised the kingdom by the emperor, the older twin brother gave no quarter to his sibling and promptly banished him to Siberia. QUARTER : MERCY A. temerity : boldness B. sedulous : lazy C. rapacious : generous D. vouchsafe : forgive E. gambol : walk I hope the poster below me is not hapless in his/her pursuit of a high score on the GRE!
  15. don't worry right now about identifying a particular advisor. i called Yale (since u need an advisor for MESc) and they said that you don't need to start contacting faculty right now bc they don't review applications until jan/feb. so that part of the app can be done later. but for your SOP, you might want to identify 1 or 2 faculty that attracts you to that school.. so, have someone in mind for your statement, but don't email him/her right now. are there any masters programs in animal resource management or related to it? if you're getting your DVM, why do you need a masters degree? and im aiming for a GRE score around 1300 ::crosses fingers and flips through vocab cards::
  16. Hi, I'm not sure if it's the same at Michigan, but I talked to admissions at Yale and they said that you should email and establish some sort of relationship w.a professor. It's kind of like how PhD applicants have to be backed by a faculty member, but for masters programs, just a few emails is good. Enough to align your interests with the prof and let him/her know that you're applying this yr. Hope this helped!
  17. i'm feeling.. paralyzed.. why is it already october?? or rather, why is Yale's app due so early? Hahahaa Mm, I haven't identified an advisor at Cornell yet. I only decided to apply yesterday after looking at this list on Treehugger: 10 of the Best College Environmental Programs in the U.S. I need to identify an advisor at Yale too, since I'm applying for the MESc. I want to get a PhD ultimately, but I don't know exactly what I want to spend 6 yrs researching.. What's your background? I'm also right out of undergrad. I majored in Environmental Science and minored in Global Studies.
  18. I'm applying to Yale FES for MESc, Duke Nicholas School for MEM, UCSB Bren School for MESM, and maybe Cornell for MS in their Dept of Natural Resources. Have you all taken the GRE already? I'm taking it next month.. a month before the first app is due.. Also, has anyone visited the campuses? I visited Yale last month and talked to MEM and PhD students, assistant dean, and the doctoral program coordinator. Some things I noticed: Many international students. Students look younger than Yale's stated average age of 27. Large class sizes for grad school - I sat in 2 classes that had 30-40 students.
