  1. Hi, I know someone who has been accepted... But I don't know what this means for the other applicants.
  2. 87 views and no answer? come on people!
  3. Is there anyone who got into Yale?
  4. Where did you see that? It's unbelievable that it's gonna take that long... I hope this does not mean that they have already contacted the accepted people ands the rest is gonna hear at the end of march...
  5. Is there anyone who applied to Cornell STS? Any news? I saw one rejection a couple of days ago, but since then it's been all quiet...
  6. Anyone heard anything? Any news?
  7. Are we absolutely sure that Yale is going to torture us till the middle of March? Unbelievable! Congragulations to those who have acceptances! I
  8. How come Yale will notify people on March 15! It's too late! I thought that we would hear back from them next week latest... Anyway, fingers crossed though I am not very hopeful...
  9. Well, I haven't heard back from Princeton, so I guess this is a rejection...*sigh* Congragulations to those who are in!
  10. When I checked the previous Princeton posts on the results section, I was suprised to see that there were only a couple of acceptances in the last years...Interesting, perhaps people just didnt post or Princeton has an awfully low acceptance rate... Anyway, I'm just mumbling... I agree that it is cruel to make us wait longer and longer while we know that decisions are ready to go! If any of you call and learn something please post here, it will be appreciated
  11. It seems somebody has just gotten into Harvard...
  12. Yes I applied to Princeton and Johns Hopkins. But I don't have a clue if they have interviews or not...
  13. Yes, I meant the deadline, it was earlier. Cuny rejected me. No word from Johns Hopkins...
  14. Hi all, Any ideas on Princeton anthropology? It was earlier than Yale, Cuny or Cornell but they are still silent as far as I know...
  15. Any word from Brandeis Sociology?
  16. I got an email.
  17. Cuny officially rejected me yesterday afternoon. And I did not post the result in the result section, but based on the other results, I guess there was a wave of rejection yesterday. If you haven't heard back I guess it is a good sign. My feeling is they took a quick look and eliminated some in the first round...
  18. My friend still hasnt received an invitation. I dont know what this means but I'm afraid this is bad news...
  19. I saw that someone posted a Brandeis acceptance. I hope silence does not mean rejection. Thoughts?
  20. A friend of mine applied to HASTS but he hasn't heard anything yet. I would like to hope that there is still time and they will eventually (like today or tomorrow) will send an interview invitation. I actually think that once schools narrow the list to 20-25- whatever the magical number is- then they should immediately send rejections. I mean, they do know that those people are out and there is no sense in making people hang on under a cloud of uncertainty. Whatever, hope you and my friend will get your invitations for interview!
  21. Hello, I have a question for those who had interviews with Yale faculty. Could you please give some hints about the interview process? I mean, did they specifically ask you about your sop or sample work? Or did they ask questions like "what are your weaknesses and strenghts" , "whay do you want to have a ph.d" etc. I wonder what kind of questions they ask. Thanks in advance!
  22. Hello, I just wanted to share something with you thinking that you might be interested. Below is a world map from Suny Binghampton Anthropology Department's website: http://anthro.binghamton.edu/UpdatedMap_edited-1.jpg'>http://anthro.binghamton.edu/UpdatedMap_edited-1.jpg http://anthro.binghamton.edu/ When you go the website, this is the first thing you see. They wanted to put a map to point out the working areas of the faculty. However, the map is seriously flawed. I mean, the whole Balkan Peninsula is erased and Italy is kind of next to Russia. This means that more than 10 countries are absent. Such as Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Hungary, Romania, Crotia, Cyprus, Macedonia... Of course, you might guess that, none of the faculty works there. It is alright, this is not the point. However, the fact that you dont work there does not give you the right to erase some part of the world from the map. What is more, no one works in Japan or New Zealand, yet these places are on the map, and they are well described... We contacted the department and the response we got was "this is not have to be a detailed map". It is quite an interesting answer. Who gets to decide what is a detail or not and who gets to claim that "details" are erasable? One can write a paper on that subject Anyway, if you find this map problematic as we do, I encourage you to email the department.
  23. Hello, I have a question about what happens after you get in. Can one change her/his research project along the way to phd? I mean, imagine that you said in your proposal to study X in the field of linguistic anthropology. Then, after the first year, for some reason, you decide to study Y again in the field of linguistic anthropology. I am curious about how binding the proposal is. I am asking this because I have two possible research ideas in my mind and I'm gonna stick with one of them in the proposal. Of course when I am making the applications I will try to apply to schools in which I can study both of them. I just would like to hear your ideas. Thanks in advance.
