  1. Here is my timeline and I applied for EPI: 1.23 advanced to stage 2 via email, 2.5 talked with POI and 2.7 offer via email. I guess it depends on your potential mentor.
  2. JHU should have their decision next week. I am waiting for UNC CVD as well.
  3. That's not the case for JHU. After interviewing, each track will report back to the committee and the department will make the final decision pooling all candidates from all tracks. Therefore, all the decision should be made at the same time. I am not sure if they will send out the result at the same time but they surely can't make any decisions until all tracks have wrapped up their interviews and send the list back.
  4. JHU should have let you know the decision would come out in mid Feb during the interview.
  5. I don't think so. If a professor is interested, the committee will extend an official offer.
  6. Anyone else passed the first round for UMN EPI PhD? Does anyone know the chance of a matching (offer) after this? Thank you!
  7. Anyone heard from UMN? They said on 12.4 that a decision will be sent out in 6 weeks. Nothing yet.
  8. Generally, it is not very helpful unless the faculty is in the committee or he/she really likes you and wants to advocate you to the committee. It is more useful if the decision is not made by a committee. But in some cases, we can get some information from contacting the faculty members.
  9. Seen a few posts about JHU admission process. Just want to shed some light into the process. Don't be discouraged. I don't know about other departments but for Epi, only those interviewed will be considered for admission and maybe even waitlisted (you will almost for sure be ranked after those who were interviewed and the waiting list is department-wise instead of track-wise). There could be late invitations and last year, someone got accepted from waitlist on 4.14. If you haven't received anything from the track you applied for in early February (there is still time for this year, I know people received interview on 1.19ish last year), reach out to the admission office or the track or even Fran to confirm. If they say they have sent out all the interviews, it should be considered as a rejection (unfortunate, but for me it's better than waiting with "'hope"). Bad news for international applicants, certain tracks (aging [100% sure] and ID track [not 100% sure but I remembered hearing someone from ID mentioned it] as I know of) will only consider those with citizenship/green cards if they only have a plan for 1 student for the year due to the requirements of NIH T32 training funding, regardless of interviews (they were sent out on a performance basis but admission has other factors to be weighed in) I have a BSPH epi master of science. My boss was a previous JHU faculty who was a part of the admission process and I have friends/friends of friends all over Epi department (1-4 year PhD students and also applicants (myself a 2nd-time applicant) who are working in JHMI). So it should be accurate.
  10. I didn't apply for NYU but I work in Grossman School of Medicine as a data analyst. Still waiting for interview invitation. What's your area of research? Whom did you imply as potential mentor? I work in Center for Surgical & Transplant Applied Research and faculties there are very friendly. The working experience is pretty good here and the school maintains a very diverse cohort. Don't worry, some people they just look serious. I remember a faculty back in JHU who is a really good person, but she scared my friend during a job interview especially when she asked about his research experience. It turned out she is just serious when it comes to research. I also know someone who smiles during your interview but gives a bad feedback. So just relax and be yourself.
  11. Hi! Finished all applications yesterday. Second time (first in 2021) applying for PhD in epi (CVD): JHSPH, Harvard, UNC, UMN, U-M Ann Arbor and Stanford. Got ScM in epidemiology from JHU and have been working 3+ years with 8 published papers (3 first/co-first papers)+ dozens of abstracts (2 oral presentations) since graduation. Hopefully, this is the year to finally get into a program. Good luck all!
