  1. I agree 100%; there are a lot of condescending, patronizing, and petty vibes this year. Oh, and by the way, please don't let me, the most powerful voice in academia, threaten you and tell you what to do. Guys, I'm out of this forum for good. It's absolutely mindblowing that you are seriously discussing what I said, in good faith, as a general recommendation three days ago. I wish you all the best, for real, and from the bottom of my heart, I hope you understand the dimensions of the journey you are about to start. The best to all.
  2. It's fine, I'm sorry, I'm a bit stressed out. ๐Ÿ™
  3. I'm not talking about you, personally ๐Ÿ™„โ€”just a general recommendation, if you wish. There is no need to explain anything; we are all grown-ups, and everyone knows exactly what they do, how they do it, and the decisions they make. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ Also, I know not all programs have a waitlist, so there is no need to clarify what is known.
  4. I want to take a moment to remind you all to reject the offers from the universities you are sure you won't attend... to get things moving on the waitlist. No pressure, though; just if you are entirely sure you are not going to accept a particular offer, reject it formally. Don't leave it to the last minute. Let's help each other.
  5. Congratulations to all accepted into Wisconsin!
  6. LMAO, wtf with the Northwestern acceptance on the results page. ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’€
  7. Next week (or the week after that).
  8. This. Email them. In this case, it is absolutely justified.
  9. This is my understanding, too; that's why I was amazed to see Michigan almost banning it (lmao) all the way from the GSAS and not letting the individual Departments choose. Still, I'm curious about how the specific admission process works when it's optional (but the fit being the single most prevalent factor makes sense).
  10. I want to ask something to the void, and I hope a Professor is reading this and can answer my question (very generically, if you wish to). Since many departments are making the GRE optional for applicants, I understand how admissions works when the GRE isn't accepted - everyone is evaluated on the same set of materials. But I'm unclear about how admissions committees weigh applicants when some submit GRE scores and others don't. I might be wrong, but if two candidates are otherwise equal, the GRE score gives someone an advantage (?). I get the """holistic""" approach and etc. but still.
  11. Y'all, I get that you probably don't want to disclose your subfield in the forum, but at least do it on the results page; I think it would be helpful to get the whole picture.
  12. Why? I'm not the best person to give this advice, lol. However, wait until they confirm that you are rejected; probably, you are waitlisted, or maybe they release their decision in batches.
  13. My subfield is Comparative, but thank you a lot for this. Sometimes, it is important to remind ourselves of this.
  14. No, these universities haven't interviewed in previous years. And according to previous years' data, UIUC accepts and rejects in batches around these days of the year, and UNC releases its decisions the second week of February.
  15. Same. Is anyone claiming it here?
  16. I have the same question with Vanderbilt. So here is my theory: - Some are accepted without an interview. - Others are almost accepted; the interview is the last filter to confirm 100%. - Most interviewees get accepted, and a minority get rejected. - Then there are the waitlisted. - And finally, the rejections without interviews.
  17. I received an email to check the portal; then, in the application portal, there it was... the most generic, almost AI-generated letter telling me I wasn't accepted.
  18. I'm crossing my fingers super hard because the San Diego rejection was super demoralizing since I thought I was a perfect fit, and my POI confirmed that when I emailed him last year. So, yeah, I'm hoping for an acceptance from Illinois. (Also, I'm quite worried about Vanderbilt interviews because I feel like I'm in the same position as with UCSD... an excellent fit, a blessing from my POI, and not interview๐Ÿ™).
  19. I finally received a UC San Diego rejection. I thought I was a good fit, but apparently, I wasn't, so who knows. Congratulations to the admitted.
  20. Fr boring Monday. The silence before the storm.
  21. From a personal experience, it depends on the Department and/or the software they use for their applications. Some may send an email from the DGS or POI telling you the decisions; others might send automatic emails to inform you there was an update in the application portal (then you can see the decision as an update there), and others send you directly the contract for you to sign it, it really depends on the school preference and the software.
  22. Is anyone claiming Temple acceptance, or has anyone got something from Temple?
  23. UNC the second week of February; Rice I have no idea, but probably in the next two weeks (according to last year data).
