  1. Update: I have been waitlisted. NYU is my top choice program. If you have been accepted and do not plan to accept the offer, I would deeply appreciate you informing the Hebrew & Judaic Studies department as soon as possible.
  2. Has anyone heard back yet? I applied for the joint doctoral program with History.
  3. Did anyone here apply to the Ph.D in Communications at Columbia Journalism School?
  4. Irrelevant to me as I received a rejection, but it's really weird that Wisconsin hasn't sent out acceptances yet.
  5. Update that I was wrong about this. They do have a waitlist. I still think it's very likely I will receive a rejection, but I suppose this gives me a reason to actually check the status change in the portal.
  6. That is potentially very good news for you. Rejections were issued yesterday.
  7. Yeah, the Columbia rejection is coming soon. I don't think they have a waitlist.
  8. The job market is terrible for everyone, but it is not equally terrible for everyone. Still, the reality is that you are unlikely to find permanent academic employment in History no matter your pedigree. A close friend of mine went to Ivy undergrad and a top Ph.D program, and then turned their dissertation into a book for HUP. It was generally well received in the field's journals. They've been jumping from postdoc to VAP for 6 years now. I understand this to be one of the better outcomes.
  9. I could be wrong, but I think the people who resentfully list all their accomplishments in their rejection posts might have inadvertently revealed a toxic personality in their application statements.
  10. So with a rejection from Wisconsin, a de facto rejection from Columbia, and a likely rejection from Johns Hopkins, I am down to three programs. I probably should have applied to many more. I received conflicting advice on that question.
  11. If you applied to Wisconsin, you might have just gotten your wish
  12. Well, looks like it's a no from Columbia (looking at past years, it doesn't appear they have a waitlist).
  13. Oh nice! Omer Bartov is a legend.
  14. Thanks! And I'm sorry you were put through that. NYU really shouldn't be making unfunded offers.
  15. Congrats!! And yes, the process can be pretty arbitrary.
