  1. My issue with the writing sample is that the size of it would make sense if it was due earlier (December, January) because it doesn't seem like a lot of time for them to read samples of that size when they're admitting so many people. Regarding funding, both Hunter and Brooklyn have funding available but nothing I can see from CCNY. Cost is $5,545 a semester for residents. The app fee isn't waived, unfortunately, even if you've applied to another CUNY.
  2. I think I've decided not to apply to City College. Some of me thinks that a lot of it has to do with application fatigue but also, I just don't know if I can get behind the 30-50 page writing sample while they're admitting over 120 people and unlike Stony Brook, Brooklyn, and Hunter (the publics that I did apply to), I didn't see anything about funding. Does anyone think I'm making a mistake here or if I'm letting the fatigue get to me? There is a lot of me that just wants to be done and wait. If I do say this is the end of my cycle, I will have apps pending for NYU, Columbia, The New School, Sarah Lawrence, Stony Brook, Brooklyn, and Hunter. 7 chances. Thanks so much - you all are the only group I know who gets all of this.
  3. Found out that my dad is taking us to Italy from March 7th through the 18th so that will be good to take my mind off of things since I'll be 6 hours ahead of what's going on in the East Coast. Haha or will it?
  4. Hello fellow female philosophers! I also have a degree in philosophy and focused on educational philosophy when I was in undergrad.
  5. Oooh I love me a good distraction post. I will be 37 in May which is really wild to think about because I don't feel like it (but then again, NYC tends to be Never-Never-Land when it comes to age). I manage public transportation projects, which is a good gig, but after taking a few writing workshops last year, I got the hook and wanted to pursue writing. If I get in, I will be working full time and (hopefully) going to school full time, but I used to be a campaign organizer where we used to pull 80+ hour weeks and I did do full time internship/full time school for my last Master's....which I legit got 10 years ago. It is bonkers how fast time flies by.
  6. I received the same e-mail! I also have no idea what to make of it - from what I saw on Draft last year, I don't believe that Stony Brook had interviews but maybe I'm wrong and last year's applicants didn't report that there were interviews?
  7. Just got what seems like a generic email from Stony Brook that they're reading applications now and they will soon be setting up interviews. They ended it with, "stay tuned. You'll be hearing from us soon." And then I got a generic e-mail from Sarah Lawrence saying that they're at AWP. Ahhhhhh the anxiety is killlllling me
  8. Out of curiosity, when the schools call, does the institution's name show up on the caller ID? Haha, I figure with all of these spam calls I get with bogus caller ID names, it would be nice to see a name that I actually want to call me.
  9. Anyone else have friends that keep asking you if you've gotten into schools and you're like...just waiting until late February and all throughout March haha. Gosh, the wait is killing me but I guess with February around the corner, my days in limbo are slowly dwindling. From the Draft '23 Responses spreadsheet, I see that NYU typically comes out with their results in February and my friends and I are going to spend a weekend in Vermont around then, so I'm happy that, win or lose, that I'll have a good support system around me, no matter what happens with the decision.
  10. Also wishing the best for everyone this cycle! First time applicant, but if I got in, this would be my second master's. I got my first one ten years ago and am happy to have a career that I love in transportation policy and planning. But I've always loved to write and after attending a few writing workshops last year, I feel it's time to make good on that. What has been fascinating about this admissions process is that there is a lot of camaraderie and a really good spirit of people wanting to help others out. I can certainly say that for public administration back when I was applying in 2012, I didn't know any of my fellow applicants. It is certainly a very welcome difference : D I'm specifically applying to NYC-based programs as I'm in a position in my career where I can't leave, both for professional and financial reasons. Thankfully, I'm used to a schedule where chaos reigns as I also was a full-time student with a full-time job during my first master's degree and used to be a campaign organizer where I was working 80+ hour weeks. I know it's going to be a lot but if I get in, I'll figure it out. I'm applying to fiction tracks of NYU, Columbia, Stony Brook, Brooklyn, The New School, Sarah Lawrence, Hunter, and City College of New York. Does anyone else wish that they could put down musicians as writing influences? I honestly would love to put Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus down because they've really inspired me but I don't want to veer too off course.
