PhD/DrPH (Public Health) Fall 2024 - The Grad Cafe Forums

Thank you. I appreciate it. I am just confused as to what I should emphasize in my personal statement since my public health experience is primarily administration in a public health department. Anything specific that the professor recommended for a strong application? -

As I recall, they have two specializations. Community Health Practice requires a GRE, which I didn't have time for, that is why I didn't apply to it. I am still thinking about applying to Health Education and Health Promotion, but still a bit confused. -

Congratulations. That is amazing. You thoroughly deserve it. Is this the UT Health program based in Houston and Austin? -

Hi. I have a question about the tasks assigned. The task states " Please pay close attention to these instructions. Answer the following questions in no more than two double spaced pages for all three questions inclusive, times new roman, 12-point font, one-inch margins." It says all three questions inclusive, which I think means that with the table, questions, and instructions included, we would just have like one page to answer the two questions? -

Have any of the USF applicants received the email yet? -

Haha, Yes. It seems like we're in this together. So, we are supposed to receive an email with the information and respond to that within 48 hours? Or can we expect to be talking to someone on Zoom? Three rounds of interviews are quite rigorous and overwhelming. I hope we all make it through. Good Luck to everyone. -

Also, do we know how many rounds of interviews does USF conduct? -

Congratulations to everyone who received interview invitations. Likewise. I am not quite sure I understand. Has anyone ever interviewed at USF and can explain the process? -

Hi. I have a question. What do DrPH applicants think of East Carolina University as a backup option? Is it worth the expenditure and effort? -

Mine just shows 'verified' on the application status in SOPHAS. What about yours? -

Yes. I am also looking for a program that I can complete whilst working full-time, and I too got the feeling they were looking for more traditional students. USF's process sounds quite daunting. I applied to Mercer and SUNY Downstate, and they said that my MPH is from a university in the UK, which they do not consider a CEPH-recognized MPH. I did not apply to SDSU or Tulane. I applied to Loma Linda last year and my interview went pretty well, but they did not get back to me with a decision at all, despite my inquiries. Are there any other schools that I may be missing? -

It's getting too close for comfort. Have you applied to the University of Texas Health? I applied last year for their Health Promotion/Education DrPH but they rejected my application and said that they would consider me for DrPH Community Health Practice if I am interested. I was interested but then Community Health Practice required a GRE and I didn't have enough time to take the test. -

Hi. I hope everyone is doing well. Is John Hopkins interviewing DrPH this season? I thought they didn't conduct interviews. Has anyone received interview invitations? Also, has anyone received any feedback from USF or Rutgers? Please let me know. Thank you. -

Hi. I attended their webinar and asked this same question. They said that I could attend the course both online and on campus, depending on the one I registered for. I was also told that one credit hour is approximately 3 hours of studying. So it feels like it's doable. What concentration have you applied to? Regarding the IU offer of admission, I'm still considering my options and haven't made a final decision. How about you? -

Hi. That's a good question. It's a little complicated on my end. IU expects me to produce my final MPH transcript and degree certificate by the deadline you quoted. Although I completed my MPH in July 2023, my university in the UK has not released my documents yet and does not intend to do so by July 2024. They gave me a 'provisional certificate/letter' to use in the meantime but IU did not accept that. I am still trying though, and if I can get them to release my documents, I will accept. -

Has anyone applied to SDSU DRPH or Georgia Southern University Jiann-Ping Hsu College of Public Health? The deadline is 02/01/2024. Are these schools competitive? I am thinking about applying to these to have backup options. -

Hi. I have applied to IU DRPH, JHU DRPH, Rutgers DRPH, and USF DRPH. I have been accepted at IU, but they require me to submit my MPH degree by the 1st of March. I haven't heard from the rest of the programs yet. I am looking forward to hearing from USF DRPH because my chances of being accepted at JHU are pretty slim. Best of luck to everyone.
