  1. I haven't heard anything about an 80 person waitlist. My rejection email said there were "over 104 applications." That's the only number I think anyone knows for sure. And congratulations on your waitlist!!! I hope it turns into an acceptance.
  2. I'm also puzzled about UTK. I made it to round 2 but then got rejected maybe a week or so ago. I haven't heard of any other rejections. I think it's a little funny. I entered my rejection on the spreadsheet expecting a wave of them to follow but then... none. Just me. If I didn't already have an offer, it seriously would've messed with me but luckily it's just something to laugh about. But seriously! Why such a long waitlist? I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing, but I am curious. Edit: To add, the email I got for my rejection said they got "over 104 applicants." Not sure if that's just for poetry or overall.
  3. Is this the MFA in Prose and Poetry? Don't go. I was reading about it when reading about Litowitz (Northwestern's fully funded program) and the total estimated cost is something like $55k. Plus, that doesn't even include the cost of living in Evanston or Chicago. If a program is not willing to invest in you as a writer, it's not worth your time. You're talented enough to get waitlisted at Vandy!! Maybe it doesn't turn into an acceptance. But I'd say the cost of waiting one more year and another round of app fees is little in comparison to a debt of almost $60,000.
  4. About UTK -- I also made it to round 2 and got my final rejection this week for poetry. I'm wondering if they send out rejections in waves before acceptances. I think that sort of system makes sense for schools who have multiple application phases. I would take it as a good sign that you haven't been notified of a rejection yet. Even if you do get rejected, you wouldn't have made it to round 2 if app readers didn't consider you talented enough to belong in next year's cohort.
  5. There have been at least a couple more poets with acceptances from Syracuse (including myself). It's legit. I really don't think there are nearly as many trolls or fake postings as folks seem to think, especially in Draft and the spreadsheet. Edit: But I do think it's odd rejections haven't come out yet! And no word on waitlists. I don't think anyone should cross it off the list.
  6. What genre?? I was accepted to Syracuse for poetry and I've been waiting to hear about other acceptances!!
  7. It feels like this week has been so quiet! Question for those of you who have gotten an acceptance -- I got one through a phone call on Friday but my app portal isn't showing a status for my app and I also haven't received anything in writing. Has anyone else still not gotten anything about their acceptance in writing yet? How long did you have to wait? I know it's silly but it's making me so anxious. I don't think rejections have gone out yet for this school so that could have something to do with it.
  8. It didn't for mine. It had a first name of the professor under their number and that was it. I didn't recognize the name but I happened to recognize the area code. I understand if folks don't wanna answer random calls but I'd highly recommend looking up phone area codes that include the schools where you applied!! It might help with avoiding spam calls.
  9. What?? Isn't this a top program? I didn't apply but I'm so sorry for anyone who did. Why would a program cancel so suddenly? Did the email say anything else?
  10. Maybe WUSTL or Vanderbilt or George Mason. I am hoping that the second round notifications for Arkansas and Mississippi come out soon. Does anyone know how many they accept for the second round of apps? Is it as many as UTK?
  11. I don't think it's naive! I'm not super familiar with this process but I don't think it's unheard of for notifications to go out at different times.
  12. Big congrats to them!! I hope some folks here made the waitlist! I'm expecting a rejection for me at this point. At least the hardest rejection came first!! It probably would have hurt a hell of a lot more had my first choice school sent rejections in March or April after months of waiting. Onward and upward.
  13. I haven't received any update either. There's also no word on Draft. That being said, I'm poetry (not CNF) and it seems poetry notifications are coming after other genres this year. Northwestern is my top choice so I'm hoping maybe they just haven't notified all acceptances or waitlists! Waiting is the hardest part. Best of luck to you!
  14. Hey everyone, first time poetry applicant here! Applied to 11 programs: Northwestern, WUSTL, UT-Michener, UT-NWP, Idaho, Syracuse, Vanderbilt, Mississippi, Arkansas, Iowa, UTK. All top programs -- in hindsight I wish I'd applied to at least a couple lesser known ones. Has anyone heard from the second round for Mississippi or Arkansas yet?
