  1. got an interview invite from Mount Sinai for February 7-8
  2. HAHA, I so feel with you I thought I was crazy already, but then my mom told me she had checked out all the websites of the unis that I might attend..
  3. interview invite (skype) for UMich PIBS (Molecular and Integrative Physiology)
  4. Hey, anyone else got accepted to Rockefeller's PhD program? Will you attend the Open House in March? I will most likely go on the first weekend, March 3-5. Hope to see you there!
  5. Admission to Rockefeller University!!! yeah!
  6. NYU Sackler Institute, Biomedical Sciences, Feb. 3,4 or Feb 10,11 Rockefeller University, March 3-5 or March 10-12
  7. Hi, just want to inform you that I got admission to UC Berkeley (Molecular and Biochemical Nutrition)! Obviously no interviews for international students! So excited!
  8. hey, I don't want to think about competition - let's just hope that all of us will find a nice place University of Innsbruck is not bad, it's just nothing special. Austria is a small country, and we don't really have prestigious elite universities. but then, Uni Graz for example has an excellent reputation for lipid metabolism.. so it depends on the research focus.. Do you know someone who wants to apply in Innsbruck, or do you consider it yourself? location is beautiful - in the mountains, lots of snow I think we should stay in contact about our applications, such as when do you hear from the schools about interviews etc..
  9. Hi tfung15, you are probably right, it must be due to funding limitations.. international students are much more expensive... I hope this is not so much true for all schools. hey, we share some prospective schools UCSF UC Berkeley Mount Sinai Columbia Harvard BBS UMich Ann Arbor UT Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas Rockefeller University maybe I aim too high with my list of schools.. let's wait and see. btw, I am from Austria. good luck also to you!
  10. also got the rejection.. my hopes were not too high, though. the system with the pre app can save you some money if your profile is really not good enough, but then: how would they evaluate you without SOP and LORs..? where else are you all applying?
  11. hmm.. still haven't heard anything yet.. anyone got news?
  12. Hi fall2011biomed, I am also an international who applied to UCSD Biomed. I don't know what to think if they take so long with the decision.. are we rejected already? the deadline is very soon. although they say they would continue to accept supporting materials after the deadline, I am not so confident anymore that I will have a chance..
  13. I contacted the program yesterday to update my GRE subject scores. I was told that the committee is still in the process of reviewing...
  14. Hi alleycat393, I also sent the biomedical pre-app form for UCSD some time in mid-October, and haven't heard anything yet.. I don't know if this is a good sign.. the deadline is coming closer, and if they let us proceed with the application, there is not much time to send all scores and transcripts so that they arrive in time.
  15. Hey guys, I am an international student, and I would like to apply to do my PhD in the biological sciences in USA. could you please evaluate my chances, so that I can decide which universities to apply to (since I heard it is really tough for international students to get accepted? I cannot afford to apply to many unis..) my GPA for the Bachelor's degree is 3.95, and for my Master's degree it is 4.0 the TOEFL score is 118 (ibT) letters of recommendation should be pretty good, from well-known professors in their field i also have 2 1/2 years of lab experience so far I am happy with my profile, but I am a little worried about my GRE score: 550V (75%) / 770Q (87%) / 4.0 AW (45%) I am most concerned about my analytical writing score. Could it hurt my application? Moreover, do you think the verbal score is too low? It is very tough for non-native speakers to learn all the gre vocabulary. I also took the GRE subject test in biochemistry, but I am still waiting for the result. Here is the list of my favorite universites: Harvard (BBS) Columbia University Rockefeller University Mount Sinai School of Medicine UC Berkeley UC San Francisco UC San Diego Texas Southwestern Medical Center University of Michigan, Ann Arbor Is it true that international students basically have no chance to get into one of the UC's? I'd be delighted if you could help me evaluate my chances! Cheers
