Hi Everyone, This is my second year applying for an MFA program. Last year, I was accepted into SAIC, but I couldn't attend due to the lack of a scholarship. This year, I’m reapplying with the hope of securing a merit scholarship. As I prepare my application, I have several questions and would really appreciate your advice: Should I rewrite my statement of purpose? My main artistic concept and approach haven’t changed much since last year. How many artworks should I include in my portfolio? Last year, I submitted five projects. This year, I’m planning to include 3 new projects and 2 or 3 old ones. What do you think about this balance? How many old artworks should I keep? Should I place the older projects at the beginning or the end of the portfolio? I’d be grateful for any insights or suggestions!

Hey, everyone! Just wanted to share that I got accepted into the SAIC fiber program(no scholarship), but unfortunately, I can't attend due to a lack of money (not a US citizen so I cannot apply for FAFSA). The response from SAIC is to ask me to reapply next year. If anyone has similar experience and is willing to give me some advice, I would appreciate it! Also, if you guys decide to reapply for MFA, what do you do for a living while preparing?

RISD is a big name, but I'm not sure about the job prospects in the industry. I know some students who choose to become artists or professors. From what I've heard, NYC's artistic community is incredibly strong. I wish you could apply to more schools in NYC. Even students from SAIC believe that NYC offers another level for networking and promoting your art, with many more opportunities to hold exhibitions(I talked with them during open studio night). The negative feedback from Parsons is mainly about the entire school administrative system (You could google parsons on strike to know more details), as well as some professors' assignments that are not even related to what they teach in class. And no, none of them recommended Parsons for me to apply. I think there are definitely problems there.

I have several friends studying at Parsons, and the feedback I've received from them is all negative, most of them don't think they get educated what they paid for. I think if you're really into fashion and want to pursue a more practical approach and have a great opportunity to work in NYC, Parsons may be a good choice. However, if you want to focus on installation art or the fine arts field, SAIC and RISD are better options.

Hey guys, has anyone heard anything from UMich? I've been to the portfolio day twice and their open studio night once. I received really great positive feedback on my portfolio. However, I haven't heard anything from them. The website says all interview invitations would be sent in mid-Feb. Should I assume I got rejected?

I received the same stuff. From my perspective, all professional study programs are universities trying to get money from students who have already worked for a while and want a "master's degree" to promote their career path. I reviewed this program curriculum, which includes UI/UX and basic coding, I am sure we could learn most of them on YouTube for free. For anyone interested in this program, don't pay Rutgers for this.
