  1. @jadedoptimist if it’s not too much trouble, could you tell me if South Carolina acceptances (and/or waitlists) were very spread out in the ‘23 cycle? I’m seeing two acceptances logged in this year’s spreadsheet and am wondering how hopeful I should be
  2. Honestly I’d rather wait the extra few days and know that they are looking at all the apps with fresh eyes and able to give them all careful consideration. I wouldn’t want mine to be the application they’re reading through while wishing they were anywhere else, doing anything else
  3. I’m not sure tbh! And outside of regular hours doesn’t necessarily mean weekends, I’d imagine if that was common most faculty would decline to take on the responsibility. But I know that it’s happened before, it’s just rare
  4. Oh wow they really like to drag it out huh? Is this your first application cycle? I feel like it took me so long to find even these resources and I have no idea how to go about tracking the trends for different schools!
  5. I didn’t even try for Iowa or Michener this time around, I figured my chances were so small! Maybe if I do this again next year I’ll go for broke, haha. Do you know when they sent things out last year?
  6. @Scribe you might also consider calling him. It’s much harder to miss than an email! You may even be able to hash out together which ones he still has left to do.
  7. Oh for sure, even regular weekends are usually dry spells.
  8. Thank you, and good luck to you as well! I’m waiting on Brown and Rutgers-Newark myself! Along with USC, Cornell, UMich, U of Arizona, and Georgia College. (I haven’t heard back from Vanderbilt but I’m pretty sure their As and Ws are all already out, sadly.)
  9. No unfortunately, I am on the waitlists at USF and UW Madison but no acceptances yet. This is my first time applying. How about you?
  10. Yes, this seems most likely. Hopefully they don’t wait all the way until the deadline to give you a final answer, that’s a long time to go without news! I’m in a similar boat with South Carolina, only no waitlists have been logged yet so I’m still holding out hope…
  11. Hi, I am on the USF waitlist and the email they sent said the latest I’d receive notice of being advanced into the program was April 16. It may be that the waitlist is not yet finalized, or they may hold off on rejections until then in case they get so many people abdicating that they need to pull from those who almost made the waitlist (but that seems like a long shot). I’m sorry not to have better news for you
  12. I write a lot about childhood and growing up, queerness, disability, the limitations and consequences of scientific/technological advancement, intergenerational relationships and inherited trauma, and I love to insert one speculative/supernatural/fantastical element into an otherwise naturalistic setting to see how it shakes out.
  13. Another Vanderbilt waitlist on the sheet so I’m officially crossing that one off 😔 oh well, on to the next!
  14. This was said of Vanderbilt for fiction in the spreadsheet: “ranked waitlist, will inform us of position on waitlist once we ask to stay on.” I think I’m gonna count that as an official unofficial rejection
  15. Oh, okay! Well, there are 5 people listed as waitlist on the spreadsheet, so assuming that’s accurate, at least six! Here’s hoping you and I are 2 and 3 XD Unfortunately, this is my first time applying, so I have no answer about likelihood of getting off the waitlist.
  16. Oh, so you’re lucky number one! Congrats! I’m on there too but they only notify the next in line (unless by M you mean Milwaukee, haha)
  17. I haven’t gotten any As yet and I’ve been questioning my writing sample left and right, wondering what I could have changed to make it stronger or more attractive to mfa programs; I think it’s hard not to. My piece is spec-fic-adjacent and I mentioned an interest in speculative fiction in my SoPs, and I keep wondering if that might have hurt my chances. But at the end of the day, that’s where my heart lies and it’s what I want to write, and any program that isn’t willing to meet me where I’m at in that respect just wouldn’t be a good fit. Here’s hoping both of us see some better luck in the coming days and weeks!
  18. I am! You can dm me if you want
  19. Seems like Vandy started notifying both waitlists and acceptances for fiction today also, so I guess that’s two tentative rejections to pencil into my list from today 😔 hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised!
  20. I’ll light a candle for both of us! 🕯️🕯️
  21. I definitely get that! I left my teaching job this past year to give myself time to put my portfolio together and have instead been subbing, so if I don’t end up getting in anywhere it’s definitely going to be tricky for me financially! But I’m trying to stay positive and hold out hope!
  22. Hi! I don’t mean to come across as rude, especially since I’ve gotten two waitlists myself and am struggling with disappointment while knowing that others are riding on multiple rejections, but taking a spot this year and continuing to shop around for another program while already in a program is taking a spot away from someone who really wants to go there. Basically, you’re both preventing someone from getting into the program you’ve already been accepted to AND the program you eventually choose if you try again next cycle despite accepting an offer this time. I’d wait to see the rest of your results before making any final decisions, but I’d say there’s no wrong choice here except that one. There’s also the possibility that your funding for this coming year will be in jeopardy if you don’t plan to finish out the program. Imo, it’s definitely bad etiquette.
  23. Still only two mfa results listed on the sheet for USC, so I’m holding out hope! Maybe they’re still deliberating on the rest of the short list…
  24. Looks like several people heard back from USC yesterday about acceptances, so if I don’t hear anything today I expect it’ll either be a w or an r for me
  25. Ah I’m sorry, best of luck going forward!
