  1. the faculty and departmental staff have been very good about communication so far-- i didnt get the impression that this is one of those programs that kind of leaves waitlisters in the lurch even after everything has been decided. if youre anxious about your options im sure an email wouldnt hurt-- i was open about weighing two options on short notice and they were pretty accommodating good luck-- hope I get to see you in the fall
  2. I ended up accepting the offer at uiuc-- but it wasn't clear whether or not they filled the other two spots yet
  3. And just got my second acceptance! ... From the second school I heard from back in January 😂 (Ohio State)... a very big decision to make in a short time but I suppose there's much worse problems to have
  4. No, they didn't mention if the other 2 spots had been filled yet. They did want my decision by EOD tomorrow, so there may be a bit of movement this week after the 15th.
  5. Just got my first acceptance! ... From the very first school I heard from back in January 😂 my fellow waitlist warriors, now is our time 😄
  6. haha im waitlisted there for fiction and this gave me a heart attack before i realized youre cnf. good luck at Pitt!
  7. Hi hi Just a disclaimer, take anything I say with a grain of salt. I think there's at least one person posting on here who didn't get an interview but got waitlisted, so I'm just going off my best guess. I haven't heard anything since my waitlist update in late February. I got notified via portal update rather than a personal email. My gut tells me if you haven't heard anything it's a soft rejection. With any of these applications I suppose it's never truly over until you get that official rejection, but I wouldn't count on anything from ND if you haven't heard from them yet.
  8. hey do all the amherst rejections encourage you to apply again next year? i'm trying to discern whether I should read it as legitimate encouragement or just an attempt to get another 85 dollars out of me if this year doesn't work out 😂
  9. I think I might be wrapping up my application season with 3 waitlists and 0 acceptances (a few likely soft rejections still pending) currently drafting emails to program directors at my waitlists that just read "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE". I guess if that doesn't work I'll try again next cycle 🙏 my thoughts and prayers to anyone else who will similarly be in waitlist limbo for another month+
  10. ahh sorry to hear. In another universe we are classmates 😔
  11. Okay never mind about all that. Arizona rejection just came through LOL
  12. haha thanks-- I do like cowboy in the desert music. and honestly, not dumb imo. I have some family history in Tucson and the location/history/culture of the city was a huge draw for me as well. It's the furthest school from me geographically that I applied to (by quite a bit actually)
  13. SO REAL.... what are your recs? I've just been listening to Linda Ronstadt (since she's from Tucson)
  14. To the person who posted on the acceptances page asking about Arizona-- I'm waiting for fiction from there too, I haven't heard anything in the way of acceptances, waitlists, or rejections, so I definitely wouldn't assume soft rejection yet. I think word on here has been that we can expect Arizona decisions this week. But I'm just repeating thirdhand information, lol.
  15. thanks for checking! i guess i will just continue to sit here, waiting patiently
  16. hey does anyone know if bowling green state (bgsu) has released fiction decisions? I'm not on draft and the only thing I was seeing on here is a poetry waitlist from like a month ago. I know their decisions usually go out kind of early so I am honestly assuming soft rejection... but would appreciate insight if anyone has some! also-- big congrats to all the acceptances and waitlists coming out from new york schools :] i hope you all get 1 billion dollars of funding
  17. We're all gonna die, we're all gonna die, we're all gonna die, etc. etc.
  18. I'm waitlisted there too and tried to do some math the other day, but it's all just guess work on my end, haha. For some more accurate information, you could send an email to someone in the department (the program manager, Paul Cunningham, might be your best bet for a contact point) and ask how long the waitlist is. It's not a guarantee, but people get into mfa programs off of waitlists all the time. Good luck!!!!
  19. hiiiii i got waitlisted too! Wishing you the best of luck. I would love to go there, but it isn't my definitive top choice. I'm waitlisted at 2 other places, and have 5 more pending that I hope might turn into an a or another w. I recall in the email reaching out about interviews, the director said there was a shortlist of 10 prose writers. I know they admit a cohort of 4. I'm guessing the waitlist is the 6 of us who got an interview but didn't get an initial acceptance offer. I may be a writer but I can do some math too 😏
  20. Hi! I didn't apply to Miami, but I interviewed for a different MFA program last week. I would say, be prepared to talk about what you're thinking about for a thesis project, what you'd like to gain from pursuing an MFA, authors/writing that has influenced you, and your approach to writing + working with others in a literary community. I think it also wouldn't hurt to have a few specific things you like about the Miami program to mention if the opportunity comes up. Though I wasn't asked about teaching at all, if it's a program that gives out teaching positions, I think it would be helpful to prepare an answer about your approach to teaching undergrads. Also--interviews often end with the interviewer asking if you have any questions for them. Make sure you have at least 1 or 2 thoughtful, specific questions about their program prepared. This, of course, is just my best guess based on my limited experience, so no guarantees that they'll ask you any of this, lol. Just remember going in that you're getting an interview because they're already impressed + excited by your writing. The interview is your chance to impress them further by coming off as someone with clarity of purpose, someone who works well with others, and someone who could gain a lot from an MFA program. Best of luck!!
  21. Approximately 32.2319° N, 110.9535° W (lol... I'm anxiously waiting on them too. sending u strength)
  22. congrats! I interviewed at nd earlier this week for fiction 😄
  23. I thought Boston did rejections in rounds-- at least that's what I've assumed. I'm also still waiting on word from them (m last name). I'm not on Facebook but last report at least on Grad Cafe it looks like some people got denied on 1/22 (likely for incomplete apps or clerical errors?) and a lot of people got denied on 2/14. Has there been anything more recent on draft?
  24. I may be entering delulu mode here but has anyone heard anything else on the U of Arizona front for fiction or poetry?
